month 5

we shall now slow down the pace of this web page. instead of weekly updates, we shall post one monthly update, with a greater amount of text and a few pictures per update. this last month, andrew has shown a definite progression with his social skills. before, andrew loved visitors at home, but when brought to a different environment where a lot of people mingled, he seemed to show his confusion with tears. nonetheless, after his last trip to california, he seemed to show a greater interest in people l`etranger. in fact, i hear that he became quite the flirt kid when tara went to show him off at kim's hospital, where "he was smiling at all the nurses". andrew is also working quite hard on sitting by himself. he has actually done so a few times, for many seconds, on his own. one of the featured pictures of this month shows him sitting on his own. as of yet, he does not completely control the skill of sitting down. he still makes jerky movements that make him fall on the side or on his back, but we think that in the next few days or weeks, he will be able to stay sitting, for good. it is eprhaps that he is bothered right now by his teething. he is obviously going through a crisis of pain. he bites hard on whatever he finds and is a little more fussy. it has even happened that he woke up through the night. we do not see teeth yet, but we believe that before next month's update, he will have at least one. andrew has started making different sounds involving other consonants besides just "aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh." one morning I walked into his room and he was talking to himself (like he usually does) but this time it was a new kind of baby gibberish. on july 18th, we went to reams' supermarket and tryied to put andrew in the baby space in the cart. he held himself very well, like a big boy. this was his first time. the picture that you see below are all about the fifth month of his life, or at least, a bit of it.
