While the actual studio time for recording the
Renegade albums was only a matter of about ten days, post production was
a different matter. Carmine struggled all fall. He spent hours
experimenting; then rejecting his work and starting over again. More
than one person had told him, "producing your own album is the hardest
job you'll ever have" and he was beginning to see what they meant.
Meanwhile Carmine and I were determined to spend
as much time together as possible. Both of us felt we had wasted
so much time. In reality how could it have been any different?
Carmine would work on the album when I was in classes
as much as possible. As fall slipped away into winter he became more
and more anxious to get the work done; staying later and later every night
he wasn't working on one of his other projects. Then Carmine would call,
asking me to come down to the studio and keep him company.
"I'm lonely," he would say.
