| I decided to get up and find out for myself. I
didn't realize it but Diana got up with me, grabbing our belongings.
She already knew the night's festivites were over.
Jon met us on the way. He gave me a hug, holding me tight. "What's going on?" I asked again. "Carmine wants to tell you himself," replied Jon. His voice was husky. He looked like he'd been crying. What was going on here? Jon had only met Carmine's mother once. Carmine must really be upset to provoke such a response from Jon. By the time we made our way to the door, only Tony was waiting. "Carmine's outside," he said, "he needed some fresh air." So we went outside, but nothing could have prepared me for what was coming next. |
