The Rocking Chair
Kaybe0
(year 2000)
Wandering through the mansion on a warm, sunny, Sunday afternoon, Kay was feeling very peaceful and lazy. She wandered into the attic, and spotted a beautiful, old, wood rocking chair sitting in a corner next to the attic window.
"What a lovely rocking chair!", she exclaimed going over to examine it more closely. Grabbing a rag off a nearby box, she dusted off the chair. Opening the curtain and window to let in some fresh air and sunshine, Kay sat down in the rocking chair and leaned back to get comfy and rock. Turning her head slightly at the noise of children's laughter, she gazed out of the window, watching Jilla play with her two children out on the lawn. Realizing this was the same view she saw from her room, she also noticed Ragnar, Sixth, and Rae close by, sparring, with Kara looking on, playfully criticizing their performance. Closing her eyes and smiling, she thought about all the wonderful adventures the gang shared. She wondered if 35 years from now, they would still be together and sharing great adventures. What would they be doing in 35 years? She mused over this as she drifted off into a deep sleep....
Startled awake from her nap, in her rocker, by the laughing voices of the children, Kay looked out of her bedroom window, confused that it wasn't Jilla's children she saw Jilla playing with. "Oh yes", she chuckled to herself. "Those are Jilla's grandchildren. My my, I was having such a delightful dream about all our wonderful escapades and adventures, that I quite forgot that we're a bunch of old fogies now. This is 2035. Where does time fly?" Most of the old Scooby Gang's children were all grown up and had children of their own. But they almost allways came around to visit their parents on the weekends. Some of the kids with their children still lived in the mansion, but, all the old scooby gang was still around. And, in remarkably good shape for old people, she thought to herself as she looked in the mirror patting her hair in it's tidy bun. They were all old and gray now, but the fire was still in their eyes, she thought smiling seeing the sparkle in her own eyes. Walking back to look out of the window, she saw Beebo walking hand in hand with her husband, gazing at each other as if they were newlyweds. Giggling, she thought of their wedding over 30 years ago. Ragnar, Sixth, and Rae were still practice sparring. Although they hadn't had any real adventures for years now. "Too bad", thought Kay. "I wonder if we are still up to another wild escapade." She laughed at Kara giving them what for. She noticed Drum and Spyrel laughing as well, from their lawn chairs under the big shade tree. Ahhh, the big tree, with their beloved tree house. No one, but the kids that visited, ever climbed the ladder any more. They had to get there from the door that Spyrel had found. Some of the papazans and cushions were replaced by hammocks and easy chairs now, but it was still so much fun to go in there and remember. She saw Mouse up there now, through the window, telling her grandbaby a tale of great adventure. Chryse would be in the kitchen talking with Code and Vi about all the handsome young scapers that came and went from the mansion now. "Hussies", she thought with a smile. Sun and IQ were somewhere close by she knew, but where were Ghost and Artik? Ghost wandered in and out, never changing. But, Artik seemed to get into as much trouble as an old lady, as she did when she was young. Just as fiesty as ever. Oh well, never mind. The farscape reruns will be on at 6 pm on the big screen in the ballroom, and Kay knew everyone would be present for that. "Still", she thought, as she left her room to join her friends outside, "I wonder if we are too old to have one more great adventure, even at our age"......
