I'll Be Dog-Gone (1)
KaraS -- KaraS shows up carrying a large...
backpack, Thor trotting at her heels.
"You forgot someone Sixth." she said.
Sixth sighed, she had been hoping to get away without bringing him. Thor AND the dogs on the longboat could get...inconvienient.
*Please mistress.* thought Thor, looking imploringly up into her face. *Let me come with you.*
"Oh ok." Sixth said. "But you have to promise to behave. And to not tease the dogs."
*I promise.* Thor thought. And surely he meant it. Now. But as soon as he got bored.... Sixth knew JUST what would happen.
"Where are they?" Kara asked, looking around for the dogs.
"Messing up my cargo hold." Ragnar said dryly.
"I'll go down and visit them." Kara said. She liked Sixth's dogs. After all, she HAD given Sixth four of them. She really thought that there was nothing wrong with the dogs that a nice firm obedience course wouldn't cure, but with so many of them...
Perhaps finding them new homes was best after all.
Mouse2000 -- Mouse is next onboard
with her own Rotty (Juno, 9 months, female) in tow, along with the appropriate dog food and toys, along with her own backpack and essentials.
"Since we'll be gone for a while, I couldn't leave her here, even with a babysitter. You know how they howl and pine for us..." she said to Sixth, who nodded her head in agreement. "But I'm keeping her, so no new home for her, ok?" Mouse asked.
"Not a problem. Put her down in the hold with the other guys and she'll have a ball." KaraS said.
Mouse stretched out in the hammock and pushed herself gently, enjoying the breeze, and the prospect of some travelling
Chryse74 -- Ahoy there!
Yells Chryse as she starts up the gangplank.
"I've always wanted to know where this river goes. Room for me?" asks chryse.
"Of course Chryse, just make yourself comfy," replies Ragnar.
"hey, thanks."
Chryse goes off to stow her bag in one of the rooms. she comes back with a bagful of doggie treats. "I brought these for games for the dogs 6thy. We'll need to keep 'em occupied while we find them new homes. I do like your dogs you know. They can be a handful, but so are kids!"
She stores the doggie treats in a safe place and finds a place to sit while waiting for anyone else to show up.
Viridian -- Viridian walked up the gangplank
and greeted the Viking. "Nice day for a boat ride Ragnar."
She nodded at Sixth. "This is a very responsible thing you are doing, Sixth. I commend you for it."
"Why thank you Vi," Sixth said, trying not to wince at the memory of Viridian's pink plaid party skirt. One of the dogs had bitten a hole out of it. Sixth took in the vision of Viridian in her pink overalls with her pink smock on top. Between her bugling pockets and the large rolling suitcase, Vi had arrived ready for anything.
"Oh!" Viridian said, "I brought something for the dogs; now where did I put it?" She patted her pockets absentmindedly. "I thought I put it in this one." She rolled her suitcase out of the way and started to empty one of the smock pockets, placing its contents down on the deck. Chryse came over to see what was happening and caught Sixth's smile as the pile of stuff grew. Viridian pulled out a packet of finishing nails, a pair of tweezers, a pad of post-it-notes, bubblegum, a subscription form to Martha Stewart Living, six pairs of vinyl gloves, a small tiara, kitty claw clippers for The Lovely Lucy, paperclips, a small bottle of glue, a pink highlighter, several brushes and a small jar of...
"PEANUT BUTTER????"Chryse cried, "Oh Viridian!"
"I get hungry," Viridian mummbled. "The crackers are in this pocket."
Ragnar noticed a package of dog treats sticking out one of the back pockets of Viridian's smock. He reached over and pulled it out. "Might this be what you were looking for?"
Viridian's face brightened. "There it is! Thanks Ragnar!" She handed the dog treats to Sixth. "Peace offering," she said solemnly.
Sixth successfully kept a straight face. "Gratefully accepted," she replied, avoiding the smirks of the other Scoobies.
Kaybe0 -- Kaybe joined the group
with her new cocker spaniel puppy, and treats for all the dogs. "Hi guys" she said as she came up. "This deffinately sounds like an adventure to me, and I can't leave Honey alone yet. She is too young. Besides, she should play with the others before they go to their new homes. By the way, Sixthy. I love your dogs. I think you should decide to keep one of them. And, Thor, of course."
RagnarRB -- *Sigh
Ragnar noted the latest canine arrival and wondered what exactly he had let 6th talk him into. At this rate he was going to be bringing back as many animals as he intended to leave behind...rats and just when he thought he would finally get them all out from under foot! *Sigh, 6th didn't know it yet but he had a whole pile of sewing set aside just for her. He was running out of trousers at the rate her dogs were chewing on them. Ought to wear the chainmail leggings more often, that'd teach them!
"Just how many of you gals have pets anyhow?" Ragnar mumbled low, not really wanting to be heard, and not really anti pet. All they needed now was the lizard, the bird and kitten and they'd have a full animal crew.....
"Uh excuse me folks...."all heads turned at the voice from the dock, 6th's heart skipped a beat, but no it wasn't her favorite deliverlyman, not bad looking though, not judging by the reaction the ladies gave. It was indeed however a delivery service and lookie there, he brought a box! :) Could it be a rush delivery?
The young man continued, looking up, and stumbling into a smile at the sight of all the gathering beauties, caught in the spotlight. His boss had warned him about this place. But my what a nice...errr place. Youth.
Towering over the Scapetts Ragnar's face was beaming. Yes! It was here. Couldn't leave home without it! "Ladies," swallowing " I'm looking for a Mr. Ragnar..."
"Will one of us do?" 6th started elliciting an even bigger smile and perhaps...yes...yes a little bit of additional color from the boy. Ragnar brushed between the ladies, The boy was out of his league.
"Right here son, I'm Ragnar."
"Uh..." His attention torn away from the trap..."Uh yes sir I've got a rush delivery here for you sir."
"I'll take it!" Did he sound pleased or what? :)
Ragnar pounded down the gangplank. "Sign here sir" the boy intoned thrusting out a electronic signiture tracking board but cringing as the big man blocked his view of the ladies. He sort of looked around the viking. Mouse waved and smiled, he blushed some more.
Signing it absently the big viking took custody of the package and grinned. Turning first his head only towards the ladies, he eyed 6th and waved his eyebrows...then his body turned.
"Thanks kid..." He offered to the devlivery boy now behind him.
6th eyed him suspiciously. "So what'd ya get big guy?"
The others too were growing curious. Ragnar only smiled as he moved up to 6thy. "Why I got you a going away present dear."
6th's eyes narrowed, the others gathered around. "You did? But you're going with me aren't you?"
"But of course 6th, I said I'd take you and I will, but you know me, my generous heart and all. I just thought you needed a little something to take with you, you know, to help occupy your time."
"Isn't that what you're for..." 6th glistened, not one to miss an oppurtunity to tease the viking. Ragnar didn't even see to notice. He thrust the package out to 6th.
"Open it. No reason you cann't start enjoying it now." He toned the smile down but was still sincere.
6th took the package. It wasn't exactly in gift wrap but, still it was a present. Sitting down she placed in in her lap and began to open it.
Off come the tape, off came the lid, in went the hands feeling between the piles of packing squiggles, spilling some out of the box. Feeling something inside she raised it into view. What had the viking bought her?
There was a moments silence......Ragnar broke it.
"What you didn't think I was just going to let you let them mess all over my hold did you?" Slightly incredulous tone.
In her hands 6th held a brand new pooper scooper and broom. :
Sweetiepie Parrot -- "Going on a trip?"
asked the bird, landing on the longboat's rail. "Without ME? Sixthy, I'm hurt."
Sweetiepie had winged into the grotto wearing a kakhi vest and carrying a pack in his claws. All that was missing (this time) was the pith helment.
"Look who's here." Sixth said. "How much trouble do you think you can get us into THIS time?"
"This one's YOUR adventure toots." the bird said. "You're in charge. I'm just along for the ride. Where's Rae?"
"Not here yet." KaraS said. "We're not even sure if she wants to come. But I'm glad you're here. A little arial support could come in handy."
"As long as the angel doesn't try to put me in his wing again we'll get along fine here." Sweetiepie said. "By the way, where is the one winged wonder? And is there any food on this tub?"
As Ragnar watched in chagrin, the bird flitted into the cabin to raid the refrigerator.
"Wait just a minute..." the viking started.
"Don't bother." Kara sighed. "That's just the way he is."
"I think it's going to be an interesting trip." Mouse said.
JilaCosa -- "WAIT! Wait for me!!"
As Ragnar walked around the deck checking last minute details, Jila burst through the entry to the grotto and ran across the bridge to the dock. "Wait! Don't leave without me!!" Skidding to a stop at the bottom of the gangplank, Jila readjusts herself and walks quickly up to the deck. Her breathing sounds like 6th's dogs (pant, pant, pant) and her face is moist from sweat. "I'm not late am I?"
"Girl, if you were late we wouldn't be here." Ragnar laughs and hands Jila a chair to sit and catch her breath. The others laugh too as Jila rolls her eyes when she realizes what she has said.
"Ok, be funny. I had to wait for a babysitter because that crazy dragon thought he might tag along." Jila noticed the worried look on Ragnar's face and the sigh that followed it. "Hey, don't look so worried. He's not coming on board or anything. He just wanted to follow, or lead, and check out the other realms with us.
"Is anybody else coming?"
artickat -- "Hey Big Guy!"
Artickat called from the dock "A little help down here, please!" Everyone looks over the side of the boat to see Artic tugging three suitcases and a backpack along the dock.
"What the hazmana are you bring?" Ragnar growls back as he heads down to the dock and grabs one of Artic's suitcases...and almost falls on his butt because the suitcase isn't very heavy at all. "Just what do you have in these?"
Artic blushes "Ummmm...this and that...nothin...HEY!" Artic tries to grab the suitcase back from Ragnar when he begins to unzip one side.
"I just want to see" Ragnar pulls the suitcase back towards him.
"NO! Unhand it you...you...well...YOU!" Artic tries to pull her suitcase back and they play a game of tug-a-war until the suitcase gives and the contents spill all over the dock.
"Now look what you've done!" Artic moans as she stands in the middle of a pile of PeanutButter Captian Crunch cereal boxes.
Ragnar stands there in shock for a second and then he bursts out laughing. "You have suitcases full of...Crunch?!" Ragnar chuckles as he reaches for a box and gets his hand smacked for his trouble "Hey! What did you do that for?!" Ragnar has a pouty face as he rubs his hand.
"Are you kidding me?!" Artic sends a frown Ragnar's way "I have seen what you call a bowl of cereal! I will share but you can't have it all!" Artic sticks her tongue out at Ragnar.
Ragnar grabs the other two suitcases and heads back to the boat grumbling to himself "I'm a big guy...can't help it if my bowl is bigger!"
Artic repacks her last suitcase and climbs aboard "Hi everyone! It's great to see ya!" (((Gang)))

KaraS -- "I hope some more guys show up."
KaraS said. "Ragnar's gonna have a hard time handling all us ladies isn't he?"
Kara winked.
"Hey! What am I? Chopped liver?" Sweetiepie asked.
"You're a bird." Sixth said. "You don't count."
"Spyral handled all you ladies by himself." Ragnar observed mildly.
"Not very well." Sweetiepie smirked.
KaraS sighed. "This is gonna get interesting. That's for sure."
Sixth Sense Dreamer -- 6th looked at her watch...
wondering to herself if any other guys WERE going to show up.
*Where ARE they?* she thought as she put the lovely gift from Ragnar away behind some boxes on deck.
The girls were all sitting around chatting and laughing. She could tell though, that they were wondering where the guys were as well, from all the glances back towards the stairs they were giving.
6th was hoping at least one more guy would show, hopefully one of the easily connible kind, so she could convince him to do her shoveling for her. And maybe the sewing as well.(She'd seen the pile of torn pants Ragnar had laying on a table in the map room) 6TH certainly didn't know how to sew! but she DID know how to get a guy to do what she wanted. Most of the time anyway.
She sat back down in her deck chair, thinking she would give the guys a bit more time to show up before they sailed off. Suddenly, she was bowled over as the great dane came charging by, followed by a grinning Thor.
"HEY! Who let HIM out?" Ragnar yelled, as the dog made a beeline for him. The girls snatched at Thor, but missed. The Great Dane tried it's best to climb up the viking, trying to get away from the Dinosaur. It halfway succeded, it's front paws on Ragnar's shoulders, it's back paws scrabbling for purchace on the viking's back. It whined as Ragnr tried vainly to get the large dog off his back.
"Somebody get this thing OFF me!" he yelled, and 6th and the others managed to pull the jumping Thor away. Only then did the large dog climb down off the viking, who glared in 6th's direction.
"Thor..." 6th said warningly, "I just TOLD you..."
Thor tried to look shamefaced. "I was jus' playin'" he muttered, digging his little foot on the planking.
6th sighed again. She asked Jila to put Thor in time out somewhere, and began to pull the Great Dane downstairs.
She began to get the feeling that this was going to be a LONG trip, and they hadn't even pulled out from the dock yet!
Spyral -- Carrying an armful of...well...
... knew what, the One-Winged-Angel climbed aboard and let his gear drop to the deck. The impack sounded like a small metallic bomb going off.
"Hey! What's this I hear about a voyage? We gonna find homes for these orphans, yeah?" Spyral asked.
"Angel, what the heck is all that stuff?" Sixth asked.
"Well, I was cleaning out my wing when I got the message that we were taking a trip. So I just threw everything that I thought we might need into a pile and carried it here. I figured that we could sort it out later," Spyral replied.
"Where did these come from?" Mouse asked, holding up a pair of boxers with little red hearts all over them.
"Hey!" Spyral shouted grabbing them unceremoniously and shoving them into the deepest darkest recesses of his wing. " Those are.......a friends." he stammered.
"That's okay!" Sixth said consolingly to the angel. "Rag's got a pair with little sailboats all over them."
"I...Whaddya.....I most certainly do not!!!" the viking sputtered. Then turned toward the stairs to the lower decks and very low to himself, "Their not boats, they are galleons thank you very much."
"So where we headed first?" The angel asked.
ArtistStudio -- Yawning and Stretching, Artist walks up
from middle of the ship, taps 6th on the shoulder. "So aren't we leaving yet?"
6th turns around and looks at him sharply - "We were waiting for you!!!"
Artist looks entirely out of place with his white tux and white bow tie - which somehow remain immaculate even thie the dogs pawing at him for atention, their paws muddy from scampering around the river bank. Artist idly scratches behind the ears of whatever dog presses it's head into his hand. "I was here all along - I fell asleep waiting for you"
"No way! You're just saying that! The dogs would have noticed you if you had been here all along. Besides, I've been here 3 days! How could you sleep 3 days?" 6th snaps.
"A. Who said they didn't? and 2. I don't get weekends so it was only one day to me." Artist grins then says "ooooooffffff!" as Kara lands on him, knocking him to the floor of the boat, making the boat rock violently in the water.
"So show me where you managed to get some privacy on a Viking longboat!" Kara says, more than a twinkle in her eye.
6th sighs and gives up, knowing that whether or not Artist had been there all along, he would steadfastly maintain that he was - and given the bizarre mysteries that seemed to enshroud many of his actions, he might actually have been there all along.
Either way, 6th knew she would have to wait until Kara was done with him before she could take up the matter again - and that was starting to look like it would be more than a little while. . .
Drumheller -- "Hold up gang! I'm coming too!"
Drumheller yelled as he ran as fast as he could under the weight of his various bags and pouches.
"Sorry I'm so late. I've been studying a new spell." Quickly climbing aboard, Drumheller looked around for a place to
put his things. "Hey Ragnar, any place specific you want me to store my gear?"
"Anywhere's fine. Just not in the cargo hold, unless you want it ripped to shreds by the hell hounds!" Ragnar replied
Drumheller looked around at the rest of the gang and said, "Well, where are we headed first?"
Raven Kat -- Up in the sky!
"What the-" Mouse mutters at a form in the sky over the long boat.
"What is that?" Sixth asks, frowning.
"Bird?" suggests Sweetie, grinning.
"Plane?" Ragnar asks with a laugh.
Drum frowns. "It would appear to be Rae on a broom... In a silver cape."
Hmmm.
"Sweetie, go see what she's doing." Kara says.
Grumbling, the bird flies up to where Rae is tracing a tight circle on her broom. Suddenly, she pulls to the right, nearly hitting the bird.
"SORRY!" she shouts, flying on.
"What are you doing?" Sweetie screeches.
"Playing Quiditch."
"Oh, now I understand." Sweetie says sarcastically.
"I can't find the Snitch." Rae explains.
"Whatever." Sweetie sighs. "Look, we're about to take off. Coming?"
"Huh? Sure." Rae goes into a nose-dive towards the longboat.
"She's going to crash that thing."
"How'd she get it to fly, anyway?"
"Don't ask me..."
Rae pulls up at the last possible minute clutching something tightly in her hand. "Gottcha!" she announces, flinging her cape over her shoulder with a flourish. She holds a small golden ball up for all to see. "Now we can go." she announces.
***Quidditch is a Harry Potter thing, by the way. Like polo, only you play it on a broom.***
SunAeryn -- "Are you sure you 'have' to keep
Thor?" Sun asked rushing up to the long boat, not wanting to miss out on the latest trip. 6thy looked at Sun like she had mamed her best friend.
Sun chuckled "Relax 6thy, I was kidding."
"Oh, ok, I think." 6thy relaxed a little.
"So the plan is to find homes for all these beasts?" Sun asked with a smile. It wasnt' that Sun didn't like dogs, she just didn't like so many BIG dogs at once. One big dog alone, was just fine for Sun, especially if it were a Newfoundland(Newfie). "Well who else are we missing?" Sun asked stowing her gear below deck and grabbing a life vest. She was taking no precautions with this gang.
"Nice mast you got there Rag, is it going to fit through all the tunnels down here? Some of them have pretty low clearance." Sun added
Sixth Sense Dreamer -- Eyeing Sun...
just to make SURE she wasn't serious about getting rid of Thor, 6th pulled out Ragnar's map from her pocket.
"HEY! Those are SUPPOSED to stay in the MAP ROOM!" Ragnar cried, grabbing for the map. 6th pulled it away, unfolding it.
The gang all gathered around to look, Ragnar kind of tugging on the map which 6th held tightly in her hands.
"OK, we're here." 6th tried to point with her finger, realized that if she let go of the map, then Ragnar would have it, and ended up pointing with her head.
"Here?" Spyral asked.
"Here?" Rae asked, pointing to another spot on the map.
"Or here?" Mouse asked, pointing in another spot.
6th sighed, and knelt down on the deck, spreading the map out, and kneeling on the edges.
"Here." she pointed. Ragnar brushed her hand away.
"No, HERE!" he pointed again.
6th peered at the map, where his finger rested, at the tiny image of the longboat on the map.
"ok fine, there. Now I was thinking of going around to all of the different lands, maybe exploring some of the off-set islands. But, I can't make up my mind which one to go to first. I was never any good with choices." she looked up at the gang.
"So which place do you want to go to first? Comedy Land? Romance Land? You guys pick. As long as we go to them all, I'm happy. SO which kind of movies do you guys like best?" the gang looked at each other, pondering the choice.
"What's it like on the different islands, Rag?" Kara asked the viking.
"Well...it's just where the people in the movies live when they aren't in the movies."
"You mean we'll get to see the stars?" Artickat cried excitedly.
"You want stars you'll have to wait until dark." Ragnar laughed, "No, this is where the CHARACTERS live when they aren't in the movies."
"What do you mean?" Artist asked, sidling up between Kara and 6th and putting one arm around each of their waists.
"I mean that the characters in the movies we see, live on the islands according to what type of movie they're in. How hard is that to understand?" Ragnar said, slightly irritated that no one seemed to quite get it.
"You mean Mel Gibson would be on one island as the guy from Leathal weapon, and on another as Braveheart?" Mouse asked.
"Yes and no. The guy from Leathal Weapon would be on one island, and BraveHeart would be on another, probably on Historical Drama Land. They would just both LOOK like Mel Gibson. HE probably lives in Hollywood or something."
"He's from Austrailia" Sun whispered
"OR SOMETHING!" Ragnar growled, "Look, can't we just pick one and go? The sooner we go, the sooner we can get rid of the dogs, and the sooner I can get back so I can finish cleaning the boat. WHICH I will probably have to clean all over again, due to those hungry teeth-filled things you call dogs." he huffed.
"ALright, alright, DMY.(Don't mess yourself)" 6th waved her hand at him shooingly. "So pick, guys. Where would you like to go first?"
KaraS -- Kara looked at the map...
then looked over at ArtistStudio and Sixth. She smiled to herself.
"Hows about....here." she said, pointing to an island on the map.
Sixth frowned as she looked at the inscription on the map.
"Cartoon land??? Why do you want to go there?"
"Oh, no reason in particurlar." Kara said, snuggling back under ArtistStudio's arm. "But I think we might find a good home for some of the dogs there. What do you guys think?"
JilaCosa -- "Cartoon Land sound okay to me."
Jila seconded the suggestion. "Although my suggestion would have been Fantasy Land." She tapped quickly on the map. "There is a section of the island called Pern and Geradan has some cousins there. They are mind-bonded to humans, like Geradan and I. Perhaps we could go there after?"
The roar of the dragon echoes through the grotto.
*Thank you. That would be a good place to go. I have missed by cousins greatly.*
Mouse2000 -- "Hey 6th!"
Mouse yelled from the hammock where she was debating with herself which land she'd like to visit first, "Where's your black box? Is it still attached to that TV? Maybe we should get it and leave it here (with the instructions, of course) where the longboat is in case anyone else wants to join us enroute." She then headed down below to check and see how Juno and Honey were getting along with their new friends.
"Oh, and Ragnar," Mouse sniffed as she walked by him, "they are not ALL 'hell hounds' as you so nicely put it!" However Juno decided at that moment to tear up the stairs and indulge in one of her infamous "puppy moments" where she took off and tore around the longboat upper deck for about 3 minutes or so at top speed, and then flopped on the floor.
Chagrined, Mouse took her by the collar and said quietly in her ear, "Juno, sweetie, do you think you can do that DOWNSTAIRS with all your other friends next time? Thanks, sweetie."
"I vote for Drama land first, but that's negotiable, of course..."
Raven Kat -- "Myself,
I was in the mood for a Comedy." Rae says. "Of course, cartoons are good too. I like the devil from God, the Devil, and Bob. Never could resist a guy with an accent." Rae shrugs. "Drama can be so... dramatic, though. And I'm ONLY going to Pern if it's an Interval. End of story." Rae sighs. "In other words, I'm pretty well undecided. You guys pick."
Rae retires to the cabin for a short nap.
RagnarRB -- As the gang debated
Ragnar moved amid ships and began the process of unstepping the mast. Sun had been right, the mast would not do for the first leg of their journey. He had only put it up to paint it anyway. It looked like now that would be keeping.
Hoisting the ropes and humming to himself he wondered how long it would take them to get this decision stuff out of their system. If they would just think a moment there was really no decision to be made at all. Being the Captain of the ship, and a practicle man by nature, he already knew it took folks a bit of time to get used to thinking of travel on the river scifi. They didn't refer to these parts as the uncharted territories for nothing. You couldn't simply jump from spot to spot. The destinations they wished to reach were fixed, and they already had an order to them. They would reach some obviously even before they came close to others. He had to follow the river into the gulf and then onto the ocean.
He was sure someone would get it shortly. He seldom shared the maps for they were a sacred trust in his keeping, not many even knowing what lay beyond these grounds. If you were to lay them all out, not that he was about to give them to the gang to do so an this juncture, you would see that the realms radiated outward with Reality at the center.Dreaded Reality, the bane of them all! The mere thought of that place sent a shiver thru him. He had spent far too much time there in his youth. It was a prison, a prison that was not content with what it had. Reality was already showing signs of expanding. One day he feared they would have to be dealt with...shudder...but that would be another tale. There was still time to prepare. If only the imagination would last a few more cycles.
The uncharted territories and thus the SciFi Dominion by association were a long way from Reality and thus on the fringe. More dominate themes bulged in one direction or another from Reality. Since the themes were somhow related to those nearest them, after all something had to have brounght them into being, the nearest spots were other hardcore scifi, and fantasy lands. The Herculies and Zena boards were not far away at all.
Hmmm...but if they wanted to skip the immeadiate neighbors and start with the islands...not a bad idea in his boom since he doubted any of the mutts...err dogs could swim that far to find their way back, the nearest would be Kara's suggestion, the Comedy Land. Comedy land was more like a atoll really. Folks had such a hard time agreeing on what was funny that they sort of splintered themselves all over the place. They seeped into just about all the lands but Reality. No real humor there.
Someone with a sense of humor was bound to like one of the dogs. A pleasing thought.
Yep, it would likely be the Comedy Land first, with a needed a provisional stop for supplies at Reality trading post along the Dominion border...unless they wanted to eat the dogs but he doubted that. Even he wasn't quite that bad.
Again a shudder in his thoughts. Reality Trading and Entertainment was the outfit that seemed to link all the realms together. Their trading post had popped up just about everywhere there was a border. He didn't like that a bit. His good buddy SWORD and he had oftened mussed that letting reality in was just the first step in being drug back into it. No thankyou. He'd stay in the uncharted territories as long as he remained unfound.
Fortunately he knew a secret passage thru the Non Fiction Reef that would get them thru without bringing them too close to realistic sanity. He might have to blindfold and deafen the crew so they could get thru but hey...he'd made a time or two already so....
Slowly he lowered the mast to the deck and began strapping it into place.
artickitten -- While Ragnar...
was painting, kitten stole onto the ship (still sore about not being able to keep HER Duckie) she made her way into the map room. *Now if I was Duckie where would I hide?* Looking about kitten spy's Duckie sitting on the book shelf behind Ragnar's Captain chair. *Gotcha!* Kitten gives an evil chuckle and takes a flying leap (hi there buddy!) at the chair. As she clings to the side of the chair her claws make a popping sound as they penetrate the surface of the leather chair. *Oops!* Kitten freezes and looks left and right...no one coming...with a shrug she continues her climb up the chair. <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> <pop> until she reaches the top of the chair. Balancing precariously on the chair back kitten makes a swipe at Duckie *Frell! I missed!* Taking another swipe…she hooks Duckie with one of her claws, Duckie comes off the shelf straight at her. Kitten tries to hold Duckie and keep her balance but she can't…she falls over backwards Duckie and all...hits the chair seat <BOUNCE> <BOUNCE> <bounce>
Suddenly she hears 6th and the dogs! *They can't have Duckie...where to hide?!* Kitten takes off like a rocket (okay...more like a turtle...she is dragging a Duckie!) towards the bowls of the ship. Listening carefully she hears Ragnar and 6th in the map room *Geez! That was close! Now where would Ragnar never find me? Hmmmm...the hold…it's big enough...he will never find me!* Feeling very proud of herself, kitten trots into the hold with Duckie. As soon as she enters the hold she drops Duckie *Try to get away from me will you! Take that! And that!* kitten takes a 'Superfly' leap (Oops! I did it again! Isn't that a song?) <SQUEAK> <POUNCE> <SQUEAK> <POUNCE>
Kitten is so busy wrestling Duckie into submission that she almost doesn't hear 6th coming with the dogs! "I'll just put them in the hold Ragnar! You won't ever notice they are here!" Kitten freezes for a second and then runs with Duckie like a bat out of hell to some boxes. Climbing onto the top of the boxes she flings Duckie onto one of the wooden beams above her and then claws her way onto the beam herself just in time for the hounds to be let loose into the hold.
*Great! Another fine mess you've gotten me into!* kitten cuffs Duckie in the back of the head <SQUEAK> which gets the dogs attention...the dogs begin to bark and carry on when one of them sees kitten high above them on the beam. *You stay here Duckie...I will lead them away* and with that said kitten begins to run up and down the ceiling beams with the dogs running, jumping and barking below her.
Ragnar begins to boil as the noise in the hold just gets louder and louder "That's it!" Rolling up his sleeves Ragnar grabs a magazine rolling it up tight and heads down to the hold to silence the mutts!
6th panics as she sees Ragnar stomping down the stairs "Wait! I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason…maybe a rat!" Running after Ragnar she catches up with him at the door of the hold and grabs his arm "Don't hurt them"
Ragnar frowns at 6th "I'm not going to hurt them…but they have to learn that they can't behave like this" Turning back to the door Ragnar flings it open "Alright! Enough is Enou..." Ragnar doesn't finish his sentence as kitten comes fly at his face *MEOW!* jumping onto his helmet kitten then jumps to the top of 6th's head and tears off up the stairs and to the top of the book shelf. Ragnar and 6th are the only barrier between the dogs and they're prey...not much of a barrier. First comes the Great Dane who knocks Ragnar and 6th flat on they're backs, next they are trampled by the other dogs as they can't get back up before the tide of mutts waves over them.

Sweetiepie Parrot -- Having finished his snack...
Sweetiepie flapped back out of the galley and onto the deck just in time to see Ragnar, rolled newspaper in hand, descend the staris to the hold with anger in his eye.
"Don't hurt them." Sixth squeeks as she runs after him.
"You know." KaraS said. "I'm not sure if this is going to work."
"Sure it will." said Mouse, scratching her own, well behaved dog, under the chin.
"But Ragnar seems so..."
Just then, the white kitten streaked up the hold stairs like the hounds of hell were after her. Right on her heels were the hounds of hell, barking at the top of their lungs. The kitten flowed up the side of the mast and perched on the tippy top, her fur standing out like a hairbrush and easily doubling her apparent size. The dogs danced and jumped and barked, looking up the mast.
Sweetiepie flew down the hold stairs. At the bottom, Ragnar and Sixth lay flat on their backs with paw prints all over the front of their shirts.
"Well, THAT was bright." Sweetiepie commented, landing on the hand rail. "We don't need comedy land with you two around."
"Shut up." Ragnar said through gritted teeth. "Just shut up." He sat up with a groan.
Upstairs, the dogs continued to bark and jump and howl and carry on.
"This is going to be a long trip." Ragnar sighed.
Sweetiepie snickered.
Chryse74 -- Well, let me try something
said chryse. she took out her lute and began playing quietly, almost inaudibly. At first, no one paid any attention, least of all the dogs. But as the music continued, everyone looked over at chryse and listening to the music.
The dogs heard too and stopped barking. Even the well behaved dogs were listening. They walked over to chryse and sat in front of her as she played. Chryse noticing that the music was finally having an effect on the animals, got up and walked over to the hold. The dogs followed. She went down the steps. the dogs followed. ArticKitten could be heard mewling softly with the music, but that didn't distract the dogs either. They quietly went into the hold and lay down to sleep. Still playing, chryse walked up the stairs and played one last refrain before ending the song. Quietly, she closed and locked the hold. Turning around she saw everyone staring at her.
"Well, It worked didn't it?"
"But what was that?" asked Spyral. "I've never heard anything like it."
"sorry, trade secret. I wasn't sure it would work on the dogs. they'll be a bit easier to control now." replied chryse.
"But are they alright? They aren't just going to sleep through the whole trip are they?"asked a worried looking 6th.
"Oh, don't worry. The dogs are going to be fine. The song is similar to what the Piper of Hamlin played for the rats, but this one was a lullaby. They'll wake up in a few hours, none the worse for wear. It won't work too often though. They can build up a resistance to it."
"Well, let's get going then! It'll be easier to launch now without the dogs getting in the way, " said Ragnar.
"mew, mew" came from above.
"oh oh, we better get kitten down from there. I think she's stuck, " said Kara.
Ragnar heaved a great sigh. "Well, I'll need some help then. I was getting ready to pull the mast down, but that dratted kitten could get hurt if I do it be myself. Gentlemen, if you will assist me?"
The ladies politely stood out of the way as Ragnar directed the men in taking down the mast. Soon, kitten was down safely and the mast was stowed away. Checking everything one last time, Ragnar prepared his ship to go.
RagnarRB -- Distractedly musing...
Ragnar notices the series of small holes in his imported leather Captains chair. Reaching out he runs a curious finger over them. Kneeling he looks closer. Sure enough holes. *Now what the frell could....
He suddenly straightened. *Why that little...grrrr....
"Ragnar can we have a a small bowl to get the kitten some..."Artickat paused as walking in the room she saw the expression on his face. In her arms she clutched the small kitten, comforting her after her ordeal. Amazing how their colors matched perfectly."...milk?" The end of her request spilled out. He glared at the sight of the....the...the furball!
"Gee aren't you in a mood today? And I even said I'd share the crunch." You don't have to look at me that way.
Between clenched teeth. " I'm not looking at you dear. I'm looking at that....Look, LOOK at my chair."
"I am and it looks like a chair to me.You know made for sitting."
"THE HOLES Artic, the holes!"
Artic squinted, feeling kitten tense to make a break for it. It was hard to supress her playfulness. The big guy really wasn't having a good day. "What holes?"
Ragnars shoulders slumped and he rolled his head, eyes stretching. In slowly spaced words "These little holes." He ran his fingers over a pair.
Artic looked closer. "Yep you have a hole." Standing straight," Chainmail will do that you know. I keep warning you about that."
"But it's not..."
"You'll just have to get it fixed when we get back." she continued as if not hearing him. "Now help me find kitten some milk.I think those dogs freightened her near to death."
"But...but."
"But nothing. Kiiten's a memeber of the gang too, and though I'm sure the dogs didn't mean it. She's scared. Milk is just the thing." She wasn't about to get into how she remembered to bring all that peanutbutter crunch but forgot the milk. Maybe Ragnar'd miss that point.
Sighing in exasperation Ragnar plopped down in the chair placing his head in his hands. Some mornings it just didn't pay to get up.
Artic smiled sweetly and kitten waved. She had skated again!
Sixth Sense Dreamer -- Casting off!
The dogs asleep, the kitten drinking her milk, the gang gathered on the deck.
"So we all agree?" Ragnar said, his map back in his pocket, feeling more like the captain. He'd have to keep an eye on 6th though. He had the distinct feeling that she wanted to "play" captain for a while...be she wasn't going be doing that, not on HIS boat, not while I'm still breathing! he mused.
The gang all nodded. They had all realized about the same time that regardless of where they wanted to go, the first stop was the Reality outpost for supplies, then through the Comedy land toll and on to Cartoon island. It was the closest. They could island hop, sailing from island to island, and traversing the seas several times over, but none of them wanted to spend the next several years on the boat. The best plan was to sail to each island that presented itself, and hope that they wouldn't have to get too close to Reality in order to find the dogs homes.
Ragnar headed up to the control room. He flipped various switches, and truned some dials, and the engines started to rumble.
6th herself was startled when she heard the rumbling underneath her feet. She'd almost forgotten that this particular Longboat was equipped with all sorts of high-tech devices, including engines. Ragnar, meanwhile, flipped another switch, and the anchor began to haul itself in.
The ship began to move. Mouse, who had run back to get the Black box and leave it on the dock, barely made the leap as the gangplank began to rise. She ran up it, and landed on the deck with a thump.
"Where is he?" she sputtered. 6th pointed, and Mouse took off for the control room, intent on harrangueing the viking on almost leaving her behind.
6th sighed, watching the boat pull out from the dock and turn towards the tunnels, instead of out into the lake. The ship slid into the tunnel, the air darkening around the Scoobs. The walls were lit with torches that let off an errie glow, creating shadows, there was an almost inaudible <click> from the control room,(Sounds being amplified in the tunnels) as Ragnar turned on the "runway lights" and little strobes began to flash in sequence down the tunnel walls, leading the ship out.
6th lit a cigarette, watching it glow in the dark, and sighed peacefully. Kara was to busy with Artist in the dark to scold her for smoking this time, and 6th chuckled, listening to Kara's "Oooo Artist, you wicked thing!" She wondered if the scoundrel would behave, and giggling, sincerely doubted it.
She watched the pinlight of sky grow brighter in the distance as the ship sailed along towards the tunnel opening into the river Sci-fi...and wondered what their first adventure would be like...
Ragnar, Mouse following, a smug look on her face, came and sat beside 6th. It seemed Mouse had taken over his hammock for the duration,6th thought, as she watched Mouse lay back in it with a sigh of contentment.
"So, who's steering?" 6th asked.
"Auto pilot." Ragnar said. "I installed it for the specific reason of keeping an eye on you." he eyed her. "And the others too. Who knows what kind of damage you would cause to my boat if I stayed up in the control room the whole time." 6th cocked her eyebrow at him.
"SO who's going to keep a lookout for what kind of 'damage' I could cause to you while you're watching me?" she snickered.
"Like you could hurt me!" he laughed.
"Who said anything about HURTING you?" 6th countered, grinning widely. In the errie glow of the lighted cavern, her grin looked particularly wicked, and Ragnar gulped inwardly. *Just what kind of mess have I gotten myself into now?* he thought to himself.
Thor, the only one among them who could read all their minds, snickered at the various thoughts rolling around in the minds of the Scoobs in the dark.
RavenKat -- Ah, the thrill of the open road!
Rae thinks happily, leaning against a bulkhead.
*But it is not open.* Thor protests. *Not at all.*
*I know.* Rae scratches the dinosaur on the top of the head and gets up to hand Mouse a pillow and blanket. "Comfy?"
Zzzzzzz
"I'll take that as a yes." Grinning, Rae shoulders her pack *Ah, my trusty bag of Holding... It's been too long.*
Thor stares at her quizzically. *Why do you talk to what can not talk back?*
*You'd be surprised what I can get to talk back.* Rae grins at him. *I'm off to see what kind of, er, adventure I can generate. Care to come?*
Nodding happily, Thor follows Rae out of the cabin.
