Gene, Once in a while I get back to family history. This week I encountered a Michael Gryniewicz who works on the Marquette Unviersity (Milwaukee) newsletter. I sent him an e-mail and got the following response today. Do you recognize any of the names or events? He does mention you!! Bob Oldowski April 29, 1998 April 28, 1998Hi Bob, Thanks for the email. I would be interested in getting a copy of your Gryniewicz family tree. Here's what I know off hand....but my Uncle has been doing a lot of family tree research too. He however, does not have access to the internet......but he is planning a trip to Poland. I personally have very limited knowledge...... My Grandmother (died 9/97) was Helen Mikrut (Polish) she married Michael Gryniewicz (Chicago) in Chicago in approximately 1934.....we think it was his second marriage (?). Michael died in the mid 1960s. We think he had 2 brothers - Joe and Alex. It is thought that Alex changed his name to Alex Green and resided in Cleveland. As far as I know, there were 3 generations of Joe's in Chicago. Michael's brother Joe (nicknamed "Smokey" I think...), his son named Joe (married to Mary...I think) and their son named Joe. Joe and Mary's son Joe is currently in Littleton Colorado...I think he works in City government. He is my godfather. Michael and Helen moved to Racine Wisconsin had 2 sons named Michael and Alfred. Alfred (my uncle) still resides in Racine and has a married daughter named Catherine (my cousin - I think she lives in Appleton WI). Michael Julius Gryniewicz (my father) and his wife Darlene reside in Brookfield WI (Milw suburb). Their Children are Steven '62, Michael '63 (Me!),Thomas '67 and Lisa '69. All except Tom still live in the Milwaukee area. He recently moved to Phoenix. Steve has 2 daughters and a son. Tom was married and divorced (his ex retained Gryniewicz name)....I am to be married this summer. Other Gryniewicz's from Chicago.....Betty, Pat, Jo (?)....not sure if they are Gryniewiczs by marriage only.... Gryniewiczs that I've found on the internet..... I think I've seen the name in obituaries - Detroit and possibly Cleveland. I emailed but got no response from a college student at Michigan. I remember seeing Eugene's name - he's some sort of artist for fiction stories - I've seen his work on the internet. I think there's a Nancy from Ann Arbor Michigan...in the medical field. I seem to remember a female marathon runner (?) also a high school age girl who ran track....???? Like I said earlier...I'd appreciate any type of family tree you have. My Uncle (AL GRYNIEWICZ) has been researching the name too. He knows the Chicago Gryniewiczs better than i do.....if you'd like to call him and compare notes his number is (414) 554 -6012 (Racine Wisconsin). His wife is Joy Gryniewicz. Tell him that you had contact with his nephew Mike via email. My father Michael Gryniewicz graduated Marquette in 1965 and then went on to Marquette's Medical School. My brother Steve - Marquette Liberal Arts '84....and I graduated from Marquette's college of journalism in '85. By the way, all the Gryniewiczs I know pronounce it "GRENAWITS" or "GRINAWITS"..........I think the proper Polish pronunciation is "GRIN - YAY - VICH" or something like that (according to my Grandmother). thanks for writing.
