Reliability
Right away, you'll notice our new Copiscan
8000 models don't list a daily duty cycle. The reason:
the Copiscan 8080S, 8080D, 8125S, 8125D models
are designed to withstand the heaviest
workloads and the harshest production environments.
A rugged plastic shell adds durability, not
weight.
Reliability is enhanced by using self-calibrating
camera electronics to minimize operator
adjustments. For example, self-adjusting lamps
provide consistent quality from one scan to the
next. Plus, a complete self-diagnostic exam
is conducted every time the scanner starts up,
minimizing down-time. The need for consumables
has been engineered to a minimum, too.
When a lamp nears the end of its life, the
user is alerted beforehand so the part can be ordered
in advance. And when consumable parts do need
replacing, a service panel provides quick and
easy access.
Copiscan 8000 scanners are not limited by the
host software support. All are easily accessible
through a message display on the User Control
Panel. There are even multi-lingual options
(choose English, Spanish, French, or German).
A wide variety of menu-driven functions can be opened and operated, including:
Throughput
The Copiscan 8000 Series is not only designed
to be fast, but also efficient. A bottom entry input tray makes
the scanner easy to use from the sitting position.
The new exit design ensures that output is sequenced the same
as the input.
New design allows easy access to the entire paper path, so occasional jams are cleared in seconds.
Very quiet for their speed, the Copiscan 8080
and 8125 scanners scan at a rate of 80 pages per minute (ppm)
and 125 ppm in landscape; 160 to 250 images
per minute (ipm) in duplex mode. To allow easier scanning of
delicate documents, the Copiscan 8000 Series
can be adjusted to a half-speed, manual-feed mode.
Image
Quality
Each 8000 Series model comes with Adaptive
Contrast Enhancement (ACE) that actually improves what you
want to see, and suppresses what you don't.
ACE eliminates miscellaneous noise, reproduces pictures that are
virtually identical to the originals, and
even fills in missing character parts. The result is unprecedented image
clarity and increased productivity. Both ACE
2.0 and ACE 3.0 are available on Copiscan 8000 scanners.
(ACE 3.0 lets you upgrade your image enhancement
as new developments are made.)
A host of other features work in conjunction
with Bell & Howell's ACE technology to deliver a
system that is not only highly functional,
but very useable. Real-time quality control checks can
be conducted as you scan, not after. Using
the scaleable resolution (between 100 and 400
dpi) in conjunction with variable grayscale
output (two, three, four or eight bits), you can
achieve the optimum image with minimal file
size.
Only Bell & Howell Brings You Recognition
Enhancement Technology. If your business requires the scanning
of bar codes, optical character recognition
(OCR) or intelligent character recognition (ICR), Bell & Howell's
Recognition Enhancement Technology greatly
improves recognition rates. And that means increased
productivity. The Recognition Enhancement
Technology is a standard feature on all models and can save you
many hours that you would otherwise spend
re-keying information.
Paper
Handling
Handling Nearly Any Type of Document, One
At a Time.
If the paper doesn't get into the scanner,
it doesn't get scanned. At Bell & Howell, we've spent decades
blending art and science to perfect a feeder
that works with a wide variety of documents.
You'll find our latest generation of feeders
in the Copiscan 8000 Series. Designed to deliver the performance
of three feeders in one, the user can choose
500- or 100-sheet automatic feed mode, or manual feed mode.
The feeder has a power-driven reverse roller
to provide superior paper separation, minimizing jams and
misfeeds. We also developed a highly reliable
Multiple Feed Detector. Using ultrasonic sensors, this feature
alerts the operator if more than one document
is being fed.
If you need to scan a variety of document types,
Copiscan 8000 makes it easy. The Copiscan 8000 Series
handles paper types including onion-skin,
thermal fax, NCR paper, recycled and glossy stock. Plus, it has the
ability to scan paper in all conditions, from
ripped or folded to stapled or taped. It scans a wide range of
document sizes, too: as small as 2.6" or as
large as 11.8" x 17+".
Service
We so firmly believe in the durability of
Copiscan 8000 scanners, we provide a one-year, on-site warranty and
a two-year warranty onparts - domestic only
- the longest of any scanner on the market. Backed by an
extensive Bell & Howell service network
covering major world markets (we have over 320 Bell & Howell
technicians in the U.S. alone), on-site assistance
is usually just a phone call away.
When you think production scanning, think Bell
& Howell Copiscan 8000. We've got the design, technology
and service to give you total confidence in
your imaging system. Especially in the most critical part: the scanner.
Flexible
Upgradability
Designed to Grow as Your Application Grows.
We know that it is not only important to purchase
a scanner for today, but for the future as well. That's why
we designed the Copiscan 8000 Series to be
field upgradable to other models. The 8080S can be upgraded
to duplex mode. And when your volume grows,
the same scanner can be upgraded to the 8125D. An industry
standard PCI slot is also available for future
expansion.
Multiple color dropout permits processing of
many different colored forms with a single scanner, yielding
improved hit rates and smaller file sizes
for mixed batch applications. And both pre- and post-scan imprinting
adds unlimited flexibility for designing your
imaging processes.
Host
Interface
The Copiscan 8000 Series is supported by many
software applications including those utilizing SCSI ISIS
drivers. Contact your VAR or application software
vendor to determine if you need these drivers to run your
application software.
As of October 30, 1997, the following application software vendors support the Copiscan 8000 Series:
