Product Information
High-Tech #W09I782
IBM's fastest, highest performance disk drive for the most demanding
corporate and enterprise server applications
The new Ultrastar 9ZX provides extremely fast disk drive seek times
and rotational latency, optimizing it for advanced enterprise applications
that require the highest performance available. With a capacity of 9.1
GB, the Ultrastar 9ZX offers a superior rotational speed of 10,000 RPM
and data access times of 6.3 ms, setting new standards in data storage
technology. The Ultrastar 9ZX offers the widest range of interfaces
including Ultra and Ultra-2 SCSI Fast and Fast/Wide options, SSA, and Fiber
Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) support.
Highlights
The ultimate in performance today. An average seek time of 6.3 ms and 10,020 RPM provide the performance needed for today's most demanding On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) and On- Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications.
Superior sustained data rates
Maximum sustained data rates up to 17 MB/sec provide the high throughput
required for data-intensive applications.
New Drive-TIP
IBM's Drive-Temperature Indicator Processor (Drive-TIP*) feature automatically
monitors disk drive temperature and alerts the user when the recommended
temperature is exceeded.
Leading drive technology
As a member of the IBM Ultrastar family of disk drives, the Ultrastar 9ZX provides the highest performance of any server disk drive ever developed by IBM.
The Ultrastar 9ZX is ideal for the high-performance corporate and enterprise servers that must meet the increased demands of today's most advanced applications-including parallel processing and relational database applications in production environments.
By leveraging IBM's experience in advanced disk drive technologies, the Ultrastar 9ZX combines outstanding performance and speed with exceptional reliability and high capacity for these applications.
With a capacity of 9.1 GB, the Ultrastar 9ZX addresses the ever-increasing requirements for reliable data storage. To provide exceptional performance, the Ultrastar 9ZX combines a rotational speed of 10,020 RPM and extremely fast seek times of 6.3 ms with a new IBM custom controller that incorporates command queuing and a large programmable multisegmented 1 MB cache. Hardware automation further reduces SCSI command overhead and cache accessing time.
Leadership reliability
IBM continues its leadership tradition of providing drive failure protection through S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology), IBM Predictive Failure Analysis* (PFA), and the new IBM-exclusive Drive-TIP.
These features monitor key device performance indicators and temperature, reporting significant changes, warnings, or impending failures when predetermined thresholds are exceeded. Ultrastar 9ZX disk drives also employ advanced Error Correction Code (ECC) technology throughout the recording process to help protect data.
Support for advanced applications
Improvements in data throughput are increasingly important for the most data-intensive applications, including applications used in production and global information services environments such as banking and credit card processing. Ultrastar 9ZX disk drives provide superior sustained data rates and rapid data transfer by combining industry-leading Magnetoresistive Extended (MRX) advanced head technology, leading-edge spindle motor technology, an embedded digital servo with efficient No-ID sector formatting, a powerful ECC "on-the-fly" implementation, and IBM's advanced Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) digital data channel.
Advanced interfaces
IBM offers the most comprehensive set of SCSI and serial host interface solutions for the server industry, including Ultra SCSI, Ultra-2 SCSI Low Voltage Differential (LVD), Serial Storage Architecture (SSA), and Fibre Channel-Arbitrated Loop (FC- AL).
