ActiveX controls for building production document imaging applications

Kofax offers the industry’s most comprehensive set of ActiveX controls for building production-level document imaging applications. ImageControls and StorageControls are easy-to-use visual programming tools for commercial developers, VARs, integrators, and corporate developers needing to rapidly create powerful imaging applications for Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT environments.

Both ImageControls and StorageControls are fully compatible with Microsoft Visual Basic 4.x (32-bit), Visual C++ (version 4.x, 32-bit) and ImageControls is also fully compatible with the 16-bit versions of VisualBasic and Visual C++. Applications developed with ImageControls v2.0 are supported by the complete Kofax family of Adrenaline software engines and hardware accelerators. Applications developed with StorageControls v1.0 are fully compatible with the optical devices supported by Ascent Storage.

StorageControls v1.0

StorageControls v1.0 is a complete set of ActiveX controls for optical jukebox management. It provides control over file migration, demigration, partial demigration (for COLD files), error handling, and volume status for most popular optical jukebox and standalone drive optical devices.

StorageControls is the industry’s first ActiveX toolkit for integrating optical storage directly into Windows applications. It is the client portion of a client/server architecture that, when coupled with Ascent Storage from Kofax, allows users to access one or more optical devices or jukebox sub-systems over a Windows NT or Novell NetWare network. Ideally suited for applications that demand high storage capacities, StorageControls has been optimized for document imaging requirements.

Version 1.0 of StorageControls includes two 32-bit ActiveX Controls that are patterned after the Microsoft List View control. These controls run on Microsoft Windows 95 and/or Microsoft Windows NT clients.

• File Management: StorageControls lets you add files you want to archive (migrate). StorageControls also allows you to demigrate files off an optical device and back into a shared network cache that your application can quickly access. StorageControls gives developers the ability to pre-fetch or stage documents in anticipation of user demand, thereby increasing the retrieval performance of archived documents. StorageControls operates asynchronously (you don’t have to wait while your requests are executed) and its customizable user interface shows the status of each request and is updated automatically in the background as requests are processed.

 
• Volume Management: Developers use StorageControls to browse through volumes on a shared network optical device to access information specific to each volume and the files contained within the volume.

StorageControls v1.0 comes complete with two ActiveX controls, sample demo programs, complete documentation, and a restricted version of Ascent Storage for NT and for Novell NetWare to assist in application development. End users running applications based on StorageControls must purchase a version of Ascent Storage specific to the optical device and network platform they wish to use.
