SERVEready Complete
Solutions
The clear trend towards centralised data storage within multiple operating
system networks has resulted in a widespread need for integrated network
storage solutions.
CD ROM and CD-R technology, with numerous advantages in capacity and
cost, provide the ideal solution to the need for increased archival data
storage. A growing number of firms and agencies have committed to the usage
of CD ROM as their data archival medium.
In banking and finance, transaction records must be kept in a secure environment with ready access. In graphic arts an pre press applications, mastheads, advertisements, and other large graphic files must be stored, modified and retrieved. Government and insurance agencies must have fast access to constantly growing databases of information.
Responding to these needs is NSM Jukebox SERVEready, a complete range of CD storage solutions designed to provided a consistent set of features and performance specifically for each network environment.
SERVEready allows a network server to provide on-line access to hundreds of CDs. Users can access these network CDs from as if they were available on their local computer. Each user views all the discs simultaneously and can map them for use as required. SERVEready utilities the native file system of the server, and the security and management built in to the operating system.
SERVEready solutions combine NSM Jukeboxes (CDR 100 or Mercury) and inventory management software which controls the contents of individual or multiple NSM Jukeboxes.
Installation and setup of SERVEready takes just minutes, all necessary cables are included and there is nothing to install on the workstations. SERVEready solutions carry the NSM Jukebox brand, so you can be sure your investment is protected.
NTready clients running Windows 3.1, Win 95, UNIX, Novell, Macintosh
etc access CDs using standard volume mapping functions. NTready also allows
CD- Rs to be written within the jukebox from a workstation, supporting
disk at once, track at once, multi-session and incremental writing. Multiple
CD’s can be recorded from the same source. NTready is ISO 9660 compliant
so CD’s recorded inside the jukebox are compatible with existing and future
drives.
MACready:
Macintosh computers continue to dominate in markets where digital images
and graphic files are used. The use of CD-ROM for storage of these large
files is widely accepted in these markets. MACready is a Macintosh server
application that can control multiple NSM Jukeboxes, giving on-line access
to up to 1500 discs.
MACready is the perfect system for publishing houses, graphic design
firms, advertising agencies, service bureaus, photo processing, medical
imaging and all professionals who create, output and distribute digital
images.
Hundreds of thousands of images can be easily cataloged and made available to everyone on the network. Now every image can be kept on-line; no more digging through stacks of CDs to find the correct one. When a user requests an image from the catalog, MACready locates and mount the correct CD inside the NSM Jukebox and passes the image to the user, automatically!
MACready is the only Macintosh based CD-ROM jukebox and server software solution available. It supports Macintosh HFS CDs as well as any ISO 9660 format CD.
MACready is an independent application, like „AppleShare" . Therefore,
you need not install any files to the server’s Systems folder. Using the
AppleShare "Chooser" tool, network clients access CDs in the jukeboxes
as if they were mounted in local drives.
UNIXready:
Large enterprises and numerous government agencies rely upon the UNIX
environment for running their most powerful applications. These systems
have traditionally used numerous alternative methods of storing their large
volume of data.
NSM CD jukebox technology, with significant advantages in capacity
and cost, provides the ideal solution to the need for archival data storage.
UNIXready provides these systems with nearly unlimited data storage capacity. COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disc )applications can work with UNIXready to automatically migrate archival data to CD ROM.
UNIXready solutions are available for most UNIX Operating systems including
Sun Solaris, HP, IBM, VMS and others.
NOVELLready:
More networks rely upon Novell Netware than any other network operating
system. Within these systems data storage requirements have expanded dramatically
over the years. CD Jukeboxes provide the ideal solution to the need for
increased archival data storage.
NOVELLready, from NSM Jukebox provides the simplest method of adding
CD ROM storage to these networks.
Novellready provides a complete data writing, storage and retrieval solution for the NetWare server. NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) technology is employed to allow direct attachment of the jukebox to the Novell server. The entire contents of the jukebox appear as a single drive letter to the clients.
Novell’s powerful security and administration features provide full
control over the jukebox contents. And full support of NSM features and
functions is provided to the system administrator.
CDreplication:
CD-ROM has been adopted world-wide as a universal storage medium for
digital data. The modest dimensions, high capacity (650 MB) and total reliability
combined with low cost make CD-ROM the ideal medium for both storage and
distribution of data. ISO 9660 standards ensure that all CD-ROMs are usable
with all CD-ROM drives, regardless of vendor.
With CDreplicate and an NSM CDR 100 Recordable jukebox you can produce
a small series of CDs at your desktop. You define the contents (data, audio,
etc.) for the CDs as projects and assign these to groups of CDs and / or
single CDs in your jukebox. You can then start the recording process and
CDreplicate will work for you unattended.
Besides this interactive user interface there is also a batch interface. You may supply CDreplicate with a 'project list' - a description of CD-type, source data, etc. for all the CD-Rs you want to write on. Then, project file creation, assignment to slots, recording and even recovery after write errors or comparison errors are done automatically. The 'project list' is an ASCII file that may be generated by the software that produces the data to be recorded.
When you need to distribute large amounts of data in a convenient way, within your company or to customers and clients, CD-R publishing is the ideal alternative to using paper, tapes or floppy disks.
The NSM CDR 100 Recordable jukebox with CDreplicate is an ideal system for CD-R disc production and replication. Together they provide an effective and flexible storage solution, saving time and also reducing the risk that sensitive data will be lost.
