Product Information
From health care to insurance to government agencies to the news media
- organizations with paper-intensive processes are increasingly searching
for a manageable alternative to rooms full of filing cabinets. Optical
storage offers an effective solution, yet the key is to make certain that
the system you choose today will work for your organization tomorrow.
The Pegasus Optical File System for DOS is a complete file system and volume manager designed specifically for optical technology that makes it easy to maintain a dependable document archive.
This highly flexible software allows you to efficiently store and retrieve
vast numbers of documents. Because the Pegasus products in each operating
system share a common file format, optical data cartridges are interchangeable
between unlike host operating systems, eliminating the need for costly
data conversion, and preventing obsolescence. The documents and images
you save today will be easily accessible in five, ten, or even fifty years
from now.
Key Features
The Pegasus-OFS is designed to allow operating systems within high-performance, high-volume applications to access optical storage devices as easily as a magnetic hard drive or floppy disk drive. In effect, by assigning a drive letter to the optical hardware, it provides simple data access and treats each optical disk as a volume, and each side of a disk as a subdirectory.
Because each disk surface is directly accessible through the file system, related data can be easily clustered together. With the Pegasus interface, it is also simple to reserve space on an optical disk for adding related data later. This means faster retrieval times, increasing user satisfaction, and far less "thrashing" of the jukebox, reducing costly hardware service calls.
The Pegasus Family of Products
The Pegasus-OFS offers both the Multiple Drive Management Interface (MDMI) for Optical Drives and Rapid Changers and the Optical Jukebox Management Interface (OJMI) for optical jukebox libraries.
As your company's storage needs expand, you will find that the Pegasus-OFS makes it both easy and cost-efficient to migrate from standalone drives to low-end jukeboxes to high-end systems.
The Pegasus-OFS supports Banyan, LAN Manager, LANtastic and all versions
of Novell NetWare. In the Novell environment, the Pegasus-OFS resides on
a dedicated optical server and uses Novell's IPX peer-to-peer communication
protocol. You get the performance of a distributed client/server architecture
and the assurance that your archived documents will remain secure , reliable
and accessible in the future.
