      The Quantum DLT 2500XT and DLT 2700XT autoloaders meet the requirements for high-capacity data back-up applications. Each autoloader
      consists of an elevator mechanism that provides random or sequential cartridge access between a tape drive and cartridge magazines. The DLT 2500XT
      five-cartridge autoloaders provide unattended back-up of up to 75 gigabytes (GB) native. The DLT 2700XT seven-cartridge autoloaders provide
      unattended back-up of up to 105 (GB) native. Both units are appropriate table-top solutions or can be configured in standard 19-inch equipment racks.

Overview
The Quantum DLT 2500XT and DLT 2700XT tape autoloaders are five- and seven-cartridge (half-inch) library subsystems designed for high-capacity data storage, back-up, and archiving applications in the computer systems market. The autoloaders are offered in rack-mount or table-top models, and can be configured in standard enclosures.  The five-cartridge autoloader measures 11.6 (H) by 16.3 (W) by 10.2 (L) inches. The seven-cartridge autoloader features an eight-inch form factor, measuring 10.4 (H) by 8.7 (W) by 27 (L) inches.  At the heart of the autoloaders is Quantum's DLT 2000XT tape drive which features Quantum's advanced DLT linear recording technology, a highly accurate tape guide system, and an adaptive control mechanism. Together, these features help give the DLT 2000XT tape drive its inherently high storage capacity.
 

Each autoloader incorporates an elevator mechanism that provides random or sequential cartridge access between the tape drive and cartridge magazine. The magazine loading feature allows up to five or seven cartridges to be managed as a complete set. An interlocking stacking method enables several sets to be stored together on a shelf or in a storage rack.

The autoloaders feature formatted capacities of 75 GB (DLT 2500XT) and 105 GB (DLT 2700XT), and can provide unattended back-up of up to 105 GB of data in 24 hours. Sustained data transfer rates are 1.25 MB per second.

The autoloader subsystems have a separate SCSI Logical Unit Number (LUN) address for software control flexibility and implement the SCSI-2 command set for media management.

In the event of a drive failure, numerous diagnostic aids available within each tape drive help to isolate and repair problems quickly. These include a comprehensive
off-line self-test.
 
Designed for High-Duty Cycle Applications  
The DLT 2500XT and DLT 2700XT tape autoloaders are true high-duty cycle products for computer applications. Critical product reliability specifications
include a head life of 10,000 hours and a Mean Cycles Between Failures (MCBF) rating of 500,000 on the DLT 2500XT and 400,000 on the DLT 2700XT tape autoloader mechanism.
 
DLTtape IIIXT Media  
DLTtape IIIXT media is designed and formulated specifically for use in Quantum's DLT tape subsystems. The high-grade metal particle (MP) tape provides the DLT 2000XT base drive with a native storage capacity of 15 GB per cartridge, one of the highest native capacities of any 5.25-inch form factor tape product. The tape also features an advanced binder system that reduces tape and head wear and resists retention of airborne particles that could affect read/write performance.

DLTtape IIIXT media cartridges have all the key characteristics of high-quality tapes, including low error rates, an archival life of over 30 years, and outstanding
reliability. Extensive, ongoing laboratory test results show that the DLT tape cartridges have exceeded 500,000 head passes with only a minimal impact on
soft error rates. In addition, DLTtape IIIXT features a proven plastic enclosure design used in over 25 million first-generation DLTtape I and II cartridges.
