Product Information
The OSL-2001 is the first member of a growing family of multifunction
optical storage systems. With up to 20 disks and two drives in a compact
enclosure, the OSL-2001 offers fast access for up to 52 GB of data. A menu-driven
graphical user display with a three button control panel permits easy installation
and
operation of the jukebox. Additionally, to simplify integration
in nearly all computing environments, the OSL-2001 supports full SCSI-2
an industry standard
interface.
Features
The OSL-2001 features many design advantages that provide faster data
access and easier operation than other optical jukeboxes with less than
30 cartridge slots:
Large Capacity/Compact Size
The OSL-2001 holds two 5.25-inch half height 2.6 GB drives and 20 cartridges yielding a capacity of up to 52 GB. Floor or bench mounted, the sleek design of the OSL-2001 has a footprint of 9.9 x 26.8 inches which conveniently fits under a standard desk. Total weight when fully loaded with two drives and 20 optical disk cartridges is less than 99 lbs.
High Speed Robotics
The OSL-2001 incorporates a single vertical elevator mechanism for rapid exchange of disks at a speed of less than five seconds. The high-speed robotics are complemented with our high- performance 5.25-inch magneto optical drive, the SMO-F541. With high speed robotics and fast drives, the OSL-2001 delivers one of highest performing jukeboxes the industry offers.
Dual Removable Magazines
Uniquely designed with two removable 10-slot magazines, Sony's 5.25-inch
optical disk jukebox provides easy handling of media, a high measure of
security, and convenient data portability. Moreover, as your data storage
needs increase, additional magazine racks already pre-loaded with 10 formatted
disks can be conveniently
swapped out for unlimited expandability.
Dual Drive Design Option
The OSL-2001 is available with either one or two drives. The one drive jukebox has an extra built-in slot for a second add-on drive. If a user decides to purchase a one-drive unit only to discover that a two-drive unit is required, the user may elect to purchase a second add-on drive.
Friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Local operation, including configuration, setup, disk loading/unloading, and built-in diagnostics, is accomplished using three push buttons and a large back-lit LCD graphical display on the front panel. These features simplify operation and eliminate single line interfaces and DIP-switches.
Supports Both Rewritable and Write-Once Media
The OSL-2001 incorporates the SMO-F541 5.25-inch multifunction drive that automatically detects and supports both rewritable and write-once (CCW) media. It is backward compatible with 1.3 GB and 650 MB media. Sony offers 5.25-inch rewritable and write-once magneto optical disks in 1024 byte and 512 byte sector sizes.
Remote Diagnostics
Another design advantage of the OSL-2001 lies in its remote diagnostics capability. Using an external modem and extensive built-in tests, one can easily troubleshoot from a distance, accelerating the overall service process.
High Reliability
The exceptional reliability of the OSL-2001, compared to other less-than-30 slot jukeboxes, is illustrated in the impressive MSBF (Mean Swaps Between Failures) of over 1 million cycles. Moreover, the optical pickup is encased in a shielded cover for greater anti-dust protection.
Easy Service
The OSL-2001 comes with a one year on-site limited warranty. Off-site
troubleshooting is made easy through the built-in remote diagnostics available
through an external modem.
