The Internet is the largest concern for music companies everywhere. This is all because of a format that was created for multi-media CDs and found out by hackers. The format is MP3. Now I will not elaborate on the specifics of MP3s but rather the law around them. They are considered illegal in most respects. They are songs that are copied and then uploaded to the internet for others to get copies of for free. This infringes on copyrights. Even if these people start charging others for the songs it is still illegal since they are not licensed to distribute it. People are also burning these MP3s to disks and selling them. This is also illegal. Most people don't view it as a criminal offence, but it is. Record companies are losing money everyday because people are getting their music free from the net. The are trying to fight this by suing companies that make MP3 players and they have created their own form of MP3s but you have to pay for these ones and you can't copy them. With MP3s you are suppose to delete if off your computer within 24 hours, but most don't. MP3s are not a horrible crime. The problem is that so many people do it. (like me, so please enjoy) |
