Chapter 11: Nothing To Do But Wait...

    Place: SGC
     Date: 09/07/00
     Time: 0630

General Hammond paced in the Gate room. The eight missing SGC members should have returned 24 hours ago. And now he had to tell his old friend that his daughter was missing. He'd sent a MALP through to the planet that they had gated to, but nothing showed out of the ordinary. He'd even sent another team. They had found evidence of a brief fight. A few machine gun bullet casings were found along a path. But the trail went cold right there.
The Gate's inner ring started to move as the technician announced an incoming wormhole. As soon as the wormhole stabilized, Jacob stepped through and walked down the ramp.
"Jacob! It's good to see you again. I just wish it could be under better circumstances." Hammond said as he shook the gentleman's hand.
"Me too George. Any idea on what happened to them yet?" Jacob turned around saw Isis coming into the room. "New hairstyle for the Air Force?"
"Not quite. Victim of a practical joke that won't go away." Isis nonchalantly replied.
Jacob's eyebrows went up. "Practical joke?"
Hammond ushered them out of the gate room while Isis explained the temporary dye that had been added to the slime. "And thankfully, it should start fading in the next couple of days. But I'll probably have to bleach it to get it all out. Red tones are extremely hard to remove." Isis finished as they sat around the conference table.
Jacob took a deep breath. "George, the Tok'ra don't know anything about this planet. And we can't spare the people to go looking for them. So you'll just have to settle for me."
"I have no intention of sending anyone back through till we know what we're up against." Hammond saw that Isis was about to protest so he quickly added, "We're getting ready to send another MALP through in half an hour. If it proves viable, then I'm sending the rest of SG-13 to look for them. Four of their members are with SG-1 wherever they may have gone."

     {In the control room, watching the MALP playback from the planet....}

"Well George, the planet looks fine. I suggest that you send SG-13." Jacob nodded his head at the group of men and women assembled in the gate room, ready to jump through the gate at the first chance.
Isis walked up into the control room, in full gear. "Permission to go get them Sir." Isis saluted Hammond.
"What the blazes do you think you're doing Isis? You are not going."
"With all due respect Sir, my people have been taken too. It's my team that's going to get them back. This is what we do and I'm not going to sit on the sidelines waiting for word. Every extra person we can send increases the chance of success." Isis was bristling with anger. She was going even if it meant defying orders.
"And what if you get caught too Ma'am? What happens to the SGC if the enemy gets their hands on your knowledge?" Jacob faced her down.
"I know the same things that Colonel O'Neill knows. It's the same procedure, if you don't hear back from us, lock out our codes." Isis looked at Hammond again. "Well Sir, do we go or stay?"
Hammond looked at 13 again. "You go. But you are to check in every 8 hours."
"Yes Sir!" Isis started to leave the room when Hammond called her name.
"Isis, if you don't succeed in your mission. I won't be able to send anyone else after you. You'll be on your own. And you'll have to gate to one of our allies to get back home. You understand?"
Isis looked him in the eyes and slowly nodded. "Understood sir." She turned and headed towards the Gate room.
Hammond and Jacob watched as SG-13 went through the Gate and emerge on the other side thanks to the MALP camera being aimed at the gate. They saw them come diving through the Gate and roll to the side and provide cover fire if the need arose while their teammates came through. Then the wormhole closed. He said a silent prayer for their safe return.
Another adventure? Or continue this one?
