"mmpphhff" came the mumbled answer to the ringing phone.
     A few minutes later....

     "Go away"
"Nope, I can't do that Captain."
"Yes you can. Just turn around, start walking and don't forget to shut the door behind you." Captain Vansen said as she pulled her pillow back over her head.
"You made me promise that I would come drag your sorry ass out of bed." Major Odis said as she pulled the covers off of the sleeping captain's bed. "And I do recall that I warned you at the time that I would dump a bucket of ice water on you if I had to, to pull that sorry ass out of bed." She continued, bringing the bucket full of ice water to rest on the dresser beside the bed. "For the last time, get up or you're going to get drenched."
"You wouldn't dare" came the retort, slightly muffled from the pillow.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHH" came Vansen's scream as the ice cold water hit her skin. She quickly jumped out of bed and away from the water, but it was too late. She was drenched from her head to her feet. She hadn't heard the second person come in with Odis. Colonel Irish could be real quiet when she wanted to be. And looking at Irish, she noticed the second empty bucket hanging from the colonel's hand.
Odis had kept her promise. It was all she could do to keep from falling on the floor laughing.
Vansen heard laughter and spun to see who else was standing nearby. Realizing that her door was still open and a handful of people were staring at her, trying not to laugh, she walked over to the door. "What are you looking at?!" she growled and then slammed the door shut.
Odis and Irish lost control at that moment and started laughing. After trying to stay angry with them, Vansen started to laugh herself.
"Go get cleaned up Vansen and ah, ....don't forget to flip the mattress. It got soaked too." Irish said as she had finally quit laughing and was heading for the door.
Odis was following Irish but stopped long enough to remind Vansen about getting used to the new time zones. "We're no longer overseas Vansen, if I have to do this tomorrow, then I'm going to do this again with something sticky and gooey and it won't come off no matter how hard you scrub. Got that?"
"Yes ma'am. And thank you. I'll be sure to set my body clock tonight." She looked around and started to take inventory of the mess and shook her head. She would need to get a lot of towels to clean this mess up. So instead, she changed into some dry clothes, pulled the covers off of her mattress and used them to soak up the water on the floor. She then took the sheets and her wet pajamas to the laundry room and stuck them in a machine. She would come back for them later.

Major Parker leaned back in his chair and observed the carefully organized chaos that surrounded him. Shaking his head in disbelief, he leaned forward again. "She didn't!" he couldn't quite believe what he'd just heard.
"She did! I swear! I was standing beside Chic and Colonel Irish left the door open so everyone could see. Odis warned her but they still poured TWO buckets filled to the top with ICE COLD water on top of her. Oh my god...it was so funny. You should have seen how fast she moved when the water hit her." Major Stealth was laughing so hard he was having trouble talking. "I don't even think she realized the door was open till Chic couldn't hold back laughing any longer." He was laughing so hard at the memory that his eyes were starting to tear up. "Ah man, you should have come with me Parker." He said with a sigh. "You missed all the fun."
"Yeah well, I have to work with her on a regular basis. I don't think that my being there would have promoted a friendly working environment." He replied.
He had seen that happen before to her. Courtesy of himself. Stealth knew of that incident but didn't know about what had happened afterwards. All anyone knew was that he had been injured in a simple training exercise. Little did anyone know that the whole reason he had been injured in the first place was that he was so worried that Vansen would get even with him that he didn't believe her when she had said not to step there. As a result, he spent time getting to know the medical staff real well for a few months while his leg healed. Vansen had apologized profusely for threatening to get even with him and making him think he couldn't trust her. It took about a week to convince her that he didn't blame her for what had happened. He should have known that she would never purposely put anyone in danger.
Parker didn't want to show too much enjoyment at hearing of his friend's ordeal in front of Stealth. He would have loved to have seen it, and oh yes, he would tease her mercilessly about it, have no doubt about that. But he didn't want to seem to take too much interest in it. Not with the way the rumor mills ran around their new base.
They hadn't even been there for a week yet and already he'd heard the gossip about the Colonel and Major on the SG-1 team. After observing them for a few days now, he was pretty confident that nothing had taken place between the two, but he also knew how vicious the rumor mills could be.
Taking another look around, he stood up, and grabbed Stealth by the shoulder. "See that?" he said pointing to a box. "That's called a box and it needs to be unpacked. Now either help me or leave." He turned to look at his friend trying to see if Stealth would help or if he would have to do everything on his own.
"Yeah--okay. I'll help you. It would probably be wise to steer clear of her today anyway." he chuckled. "Man, I'm glad I'm not Chic."
They laughed and got started unpacking.
|
|
"AH, wonderful moving day. Again! Will wonders never cease?" Lt. Chic asked to no one in particular.
"I heard this was supposed to be our last one for awhile." Lt. Justin answered.
"Yeah, I believe that like I believe I need another hole in my head." Lt. Rei Varen piped up.
"Well ya know, if you really want one Rei I can give you one!" The evil grin on Chic's face when she said this was not lost on Rei.
"Touch me and you'll die Chic."
"Oooooo, a challenge! I love challenges!" Chic wiggled her eyebrows in shear joy at the thought of it.
"Enough you two" Vansen said as she walked into the lab.
"Well, good morning sleepy head." Chic chuckled.
"I thought I recognized your face this morning Chic."
Chic's evil laughter filled the room again. "Oh yeah! I wasn't going to miss seeing that for all the tea in China!"
"Yeah well, I hope you enjoyed it because there won't be a part two. Has our stuff arrived yet?"
"It arrived about an hour ago." Justin answered her. "It should start coming down the supply elevator in the next few minutes."
"Lovely" Vansen sighed as she picked up a pad of paper from her make-shift desk. "One day to pack, three days to unpack and set up. Just freakin' lovely." She threw the pad of paper back down. "I shouldn't have drank so much last night." She was now rubbing her face with her hands. "That was really stupid."
Laughter erupted again but everyone remained, otherwise, silent and went about getting ready for the task at hand. Finally, their lab equipment arrived and they started to unpack.
|
|
General Isis shook her head. "You know, you can count on some things being universal." She said as she heard Colonel Wulfbane suppress his laughter. "One--you can count on your supply shipment being delayed because some idiot thinks it needs to go half way around the world before it gets to you." She counted off with her finger. "Two--you can count on getting stuck in a traffic jam when you're running late for an important meeting." A second finger was counted. "And three, Captain Vansen will get water dumped on her at each new base we go to." She finished her recital to General Hammond.
A sound of disgust brought everyone's attention back to the man sitting across the table from Isis. "You mean this happens at every base?" Colonel O'Neill asked. He was starting to get the image of Vansen being a lazy soldier. He was starting to dislike her.
"Unfortunately, I'm afraid so. Although I must say in her defense, this is the first time it's happened this early at a new post." She was still shaking her head trying to dismiss the image she had of Vansen as she had walked past her room this morning. There she was, looking like a drowned rat. Well, a rat with strawberry-blonde hair. She had gotten there just in time to hear Vansen mumble something at the on-lookers and slam the door shut. Realizing she was still with General Hammond and the members of SG-1, she refocused her attention to the present.
"This isn't going to happen very often is it General?" Hammond asked. "I can't let her go through the stargate if she can't be relied upon out there."
"No sir, you won't have to worry about her. This probably came about because our prior base is 15 hours ahead of you and she is still finishing a project via computer with their technicians there. She had probably just gotten to bed when this happened." 'At least,' Isis thought, 'she had better been up all night or else there would be hell to pay.'
"Well then it looks like Carter and Daniel have a new playmate!" O'Neill's tone was sarcastic as he looked at the two scientists sitting to his left.
To their credit, Carter and Daniel just gave weak little smiles. They didn't let the groan they felt throughout their entire bodies escape their lips.
     "Sweet."
Everyone looked at Teal'c in disbelief, except for Daniel. He had been working with Teal'c for two months trying to get him to say that word. And he had said it at the right time too! Daniel was beaming.
"Oh for crying out loud Teal'c" was O'Neill's only reply.
"Well then Isis" Hammond said getting everyone's attention back to him, "when do you think your crew will be ready to start training?" he asked.
"We should be able to start training on Monday sir. All the equipment should be unpacked and ready to go by then." Isis would make sure that everyone understood that. It wouldn't make a difference if they had to work through the night. She wanted to get started on this new assignment as fast as her team could get ready.
It could have been worse. Hammond could have found out about the all night poker session she had had with Wulfbane, Major Franks, Dr. Fatguts and Captain Corry. Oh yes, it could have been much worse.
They had 48 hours till Monday. Then 'hell week' SGC style would start. Time to get started with the unpacking.
