Now, on with the show.

The infrared ability of the Sony Handicams caused such an uproar that Sony soon modified the next generation cams to not be able to shoot "Night Shot" during the day time by over exposing the image ie: white out. This move apeased the general masses, but pissed off a few discreet individuales who soon set out to regain control of their beloved cams.

The first stage was to physicaly reduce the light entering the camera at the lense. This was accomplished with a "neutral density" filter. This filter has ben in use by photographers for many years now as a means to reduce light/control exposure without stoping down AND not efectting color.
This tecnique worked well for the Handy Cam users at the expense of speed, convienance and $$$.

The next step was the NS switch in the half way position. This tricked the cam in to thinking it was still in regular mode, but the IR blocking filter is swung out of the way just as in NS. This too worked reasonably well if the shitch would stay still for you.

The next step is the "Micro Switch Mod". This trick is to remove the inturnal micro switch so that the cam never knows it is in NS mode.

WARNING

Dismanteling of your cam is a risk and will void the warranty!!
