Dos with Windows 3.1/3.11
First, look at the MS-Dos
Help file, then come back.
Is Windows slow?
First, Windows 3.1 does not use any type of caching
programs, except for smartdrv.exe. Smart Drive will put reciently
used data from your drive, then it will be in memory for later usage.
Well, with smartdrv.exe loaded, Windows 3.1 can run a lot smother, and
does not take as much time to load a Windows based program. Smart
Drive will cut Windows 3.1 loading time in 1/2. So, use the following
in your "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file:
LH C:\\SMARTDRV.EXE /F /V 24 1864
^ This statement will load Smartdrv.exe into Upper Memory, loads
its Default Switch, Displays information when loaded, gives 24k of cache
before loading widows, and 1888k total cache when in Windows.
You should also do the same with Windows 3.11.
Another way to increase your Windows speed is to...
Back
to home.
