24-hour
erg for Ramona
From
7am on Saturday 3rd until 7am on Sunday 4th February 2001 the
Regents Park College Boat Club erg-machine otherwise known as a
Concept 2 Indoor Rower was
again worked flat-out. The money raised by this 24-hour erging feat, undertaken by 24
volunteers from the boatclub, will go towards sponsoring
Ramona Kallai, a Romanian orphan (see article below). Simon Daniel and Alice Batty have won flights in
the FoxFM helicopter by erging the furthest in their half-hour slots. Well done and thank
you to all the ergers!

New Coxed IV
January 2001 sees the addition of a new Coxed IV into the Regent's fleet! The IV,
bought from LMHBC, can also be rigged with quad riggers. The IV was bought to allow
Regent's entry into more regattas - such as Autumn IVs - and to help train novice coxes
without having to find 8 rowers for each outing. Click

RPCBC Sponsors Romanian Child
In December 2000, RPCBC undertook to sponsor Ramona
Kallai through The
White Cross Mission. The White Cross Mission is a charity that was set up
after the death of Nicolae Ceaucescu in 1990 in response to the discovery of over
120,000 children living in grim institutions throughout Romania. The majority of those
children are still living in those institutions and, despite a far more open regime, more
children are being added to those numbers daily.

RPCBC Donates Blade to Charity
In November 2000, RPCBC responded to a request from Fox FM for an old, redundant blade to
be auctioned for charity. The blade that RPCBC donated was then signed by the
International IV - Tim Foster, James Cracknell, Matthew Pinsent and Steve Redgrave - and
will be auctioned later this year. The Fox FM 'On Air' auction in December 2000 raised an
amazing 17,000 in the space of two days for the charities RESTORE, Victim Support and
the Bone Marrow Rehabilitation Centre.

Sponsored 25-hour erg a success
From 7:30 am on Saturday 11th until 8:30 am on Sunday 12th November 2000 the
RPCBC erg-machine saw non-stop action. The nine men training for the Christchurch Regatta,
plus their coach, each rowed five 1/2 hour slots, many in the small hours of the morning.
The river being too high to train, this marathon effort raised over 160 to go towards
tank sessions in the OUBC gym. The success of the erg and the enthusiasm of the crew is
what prompted the decision to sponsor Ramona. Well done to all the RPCBC Men's
Christchurch crew!
