To get Vincent to join your party, this is what you need to do. This can be done in Nibelheim in disc 2 or 3, but not in the flashback. You must have the gold key from the safe in the mansion. Use the key on the crypt-style door down near Sephiroths library. Open the coffin in the middle and select the bottom answer. When the coffin closes, reopen it and choose the bottom answer again. You can now name him. When you try to leave he'll come with you.
