Dunedin held the third annual celebration of its unique internationally famous fashion scene on April 9 at the citys historic Railway Station. The South Island city cemented its position as an edgy and innovative centre of New Zealand fashion when the id Dunedin Fashion Show offered 14 local leading designers the opportunity to present their Otago Daily Times Winter Collections and the Deutz Spring Preview. Thirteen of the participating designers offered a sneak peek at their Summer collections by featuring one outfit in the shows finale, the Deutz Spring Preview. Margi Robertson, from Nom d, honoured her hometown with a sharp streetwise vest and belt featuring Dunedin emblazoned across the two. The cotton drill top had been given a wash treatment then screen-printed. This was a simple but effective piece catching the traditional functionality and purity of Nom d clothes. Tanya Carlsons dusky beautiful beaded dress was a sensual and feminine gown reminiscent of the 1920's. Her Summer 02/03 Collection is entitled No More Twist and takes its inspiration from 18th century tailoring and styling. Although inspired from an earlier era, the Deutz Spring Preview piece still showed intricate detailing and timeless style. Mild Reds Donna Tulloch continues to create chic and elegant clothes as shown by her featured piece, a well cut variation on white cargo trousers and a white and grey short sleeved shirt neatly combining colours and layers. While funky knitwear label Dot Com showed stylish clubbing gear in a slightly off the shoulder knit top in bright but subdued lavender and blue stripes and blue jeans. This was a wonderful whetting of the appetite and the upcoming
season promises a fresh and vibrant look. VIDEO OF THE 2002 SHOW FOR SALE $24.95 AT ZOOM PHONE +64 3 474 5560 |
