Don't limit your display of love to one day per year

If the words “I love you” are really priceless, then why do millions of people all over the world waste money showing their affection?

Most kids here need to save their money for things like car insurance and college.

Chain stores like Hallmark make such a big deal out of Valentine’s Day gifts just to make money.

To be honest, Valentine’s Day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Nine times out of ten, the only thing getting cracked is someone’s heart after the “big” holiday is over and he/she gets dumped for someone else.

“Valentine’s Day is a sweet idea but it shouldn’t be the only day that you show people how much you care for them," Senior Sarah Butchin said. "People should show it ast much as they can, everyday.”

“People shouldn’t need an excuse like Valentine’s Day to give gifts to their significant others,” senior Adam Miller agreed. “It should be a natural part of their relationship.” Think about it- big fuzzy bears, cheesy cards, and flowers that die the next day; who needs these things collecting dust in some remote corner of their house?

It would mean a lot more if all year round, couples were good to each other.

Designating one special day just allows unfaithful people to make up for all the mistakes they made from the previous February. Plus, wouldn’t it be nicer to surprise your companion with a pretty plant or some candy on any random day of the year?

Chances are they would appreciate it a lot more, and it would mean a lot more if there was no specific reason for their thoughtfulness. Most people spend a lot of money because they’re too uncreative to think of something more personal.

Cook dinner at your house, take them to their favorite place and tell them how much you care about them, or write them a nice letter about how happy they have made you.

These are only a few free suggestions that come straight from the heart and will mean a lot more in the eyes of the receiver.

So think about it the next time you reach for your wallet to spend $100 on a pretty necklace. If you really love the one you’re with, then show them every day of the year.
