Looking Back - 1979

The Student Council and the Neshaminy School Board of 1979 took the first steps toward eliminating the smoking problem at Neshaminy High School.

About one hundred students attended the school board meeting on Feb. 5 , 1979 and voiced their opinions.

The School Board voted 7-0 in favor of a non-smoking environment. The Student Council presented their proposal to the Middletown Township Supervisors. The proposal was to fine smokers who violated the new ordinance.

The new law rezoned the school, or portions of it, as a non-smoking area and offenders would be fined an undisclosed amount.
