Making promotions rock

Bus drivers are a much needed asset to the school community. They provide transportation to and from school, sports events, club competitions, class trips and various other activities.

Without them a school could not function smoothly and efficiently. “Neshaminy School District is the greatest and the bus drivers are the best,” George Heaney, bus driver, said live on WMMR 93.3.

On Jan. 12, the rock station WMMR 93.3, came to the bus garage to help emphasize the need for workers. They went live on the air at 1:00 p.m. with Pierre Robert, a WMMR disc jockey.

According to Director of Transportation, Joseph Blasch,"The shortage is caused because there is no unemployment. Bus driving is a part time job and it is hard to hire part time workers."

In order to make the public aware of this problem the transportation department has done a few promotions. These promotions include an open house, test driving sessions and advertisements.

Bus drivers are forced to work double shifts, long hours and give up sick days. Currently there are only 84 bus driver positions filled.

"It's very cool that Neshaminy High School is trying to get qualified drivers for the school bus program," Robert said. "Driving a school bus is an incredibly noble profession and school bus drivers rock!"
