Gym Night set to host battle of board games

Board games will be brought to life on March 2 and 3 when the school holds its annual Gym Night.

The Blue seniors will be characters from the childhood favorite game, "Candyland", whereas the Red seniors’ are presenting "Clue".

The Blue juniors will be pieces from "Chess", while the Red juniors will be "Monopoly". The Blue sophomores are playing the game "Operation", against the Red sophomores who are fighting on "Battleship".

Each night the teams will be competing against each other in exhibitions and in a variety of relays. The scores will be tallied, and at the end of Saturday night, the winner will be announced.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to work together and have a great time,” said senior Justin Meservie.

One exciting part of the evening will be the captains’ relay. This year’s Red senior captains are Chad Vetter, Sharla Partlon, Jay Stack, Tiffany Scheffer, Kevin Maloney, and Lauren Zimmermann. “I hope that red wins the tug-o-war this year,” said senior Mark Tramontana.

Leading the Candyland crew will be Blue senior captains Keith Goodwin, Sara Camilli, Mark Haas, Trisha Hefner, Mike Grant, and Danielle Danas.

Monopoly pieces will take the floor led by Red juniorcaptains Steve Mellor, Sabrina Ziemer, Matt Ostrow, and Vanessa Robtison.

The Blue junior captains Nick Jennings, Beth Foster, Matt Farr, and Kristy Hutchinson will guide their team to checkmate their opponents.

The Red sophomore captains Jim Rodgers, Lindsay O’Connell, Tad Macfarlan, and Allison Nemeth will battle their way towards victory.

Directing the way for Blue sophomore will be captains Justin Gentile, MaryCaye Danson, B.J. Goodwin, and Katrina Asciolla.

Many sophomores will take part in Gym Night for the first time. “Although it’s something I’ve never experienced, it sounds like a swell time,” said sophomore Scott Colburn.

There’s an expected crowd of approximately 3,000 people this year. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 21. They will be sold for $5 for Friday night’s events and $6 for Saturday night.
