The Fusion Macintosh Emulator from Microcode-Solutions is probably the best of all the Mac Emulators out at the moment. It will emulate the 68040 and lower processors at good speed on a 133MHZ, and the faster the PC, generally, the faster the emulation. You may download a Demo version at their Web site. You must have a Mac ROM image to use this Emulator which you may extract from a Real Mac with "Romutil", a utility that comes with Fusion. The Demo and Registered version will run Mac operating systems up to 8.1 and you may download System 7.5.3 from Apple's Website to get you started. 7.5.3 is Public Domain now so it's legal and best of all, you can update it to 7.5.5 all free of charge. This may help: Microcode SolutionsWhen you get the Demo, read all of the Documentation carefully as most set-up problems are the result of erroneous procedures to get Fusion up and running. Fusion v1.2 will run in DOS only. I have been able to use Mac OS 8.1 with CD-Rom and Floppy working, in fullscreen on a 133MHZ machine. I have setup the Modem and Netscape within the Mac emulation to perform nearly as well as Windows 95 and the overall effect is remarkable! It simply is a Macintosh Desktop with few limitations! Note that Fusion v1.2 will not play Audio CD's. If you want this, you must set up the correct Drivers in the Mac OS itself. Any questions about Fusion Setup can be directed to the Microcode-Solutions Home page. If this does not help, you may ask me: [email protected] I will answer questions but will not upload any Software. A few more words about Fusion. Some Mac Extensions will not work, read the documentation for specifics. I have not been able to use AppleScripts unless the Script Editor is loaded, not that concerned with it but if I discover why I will post some answers here. Low-Level Debuggers, specifically "Macsbug", don't seem to work. Since I dabble with Programming I discovered that it is difficult to debug an emulated 68040 processor, again I'm not that concerned. I have worked with Assembly, C++, and QuickBASIC all in the DOS and Windows enviornment and am not inspired to write Mac programs at this time. I have taken a look at Mac binaries with Super ResEdit, a very powerful resource editor from Apple Computer, and have become intrested in their structure, (Data Forks and Resource Forks Kinda Stuff). There is a new release of Fusion PC completed by Jim Drew, Fusion's Author, that is rumored to be an even better performer then v1.2. Click on the link to Microcode's web site to find out more. Again, read the documentation. It can take days to set-up Fusion if you try to re-invent what Jim Drew has clearly stated in the Demo's requirements. The correct DOS Drivers for your CD, Sound Card, etc., and how they are loaded are of the upmost importance. Take some time with it. Well worth it! Take a Look Sample
