Zakynthos
From the 27th June 2000 to the 28th September 2000 I decided on a change of scenery. So I loaded up the van and drove 2000 miles to Greece. The Island of Zakynthos to be precise. The challenge was to see if I could "make it" out there without the help of managment or agents.
This proved to be no problem and within 2 weeks I was working 6/7 nights a week and with the cost of living so low, earning good money too!
The island is a very beautiful part of the world with crystal blue sea and golden sandy beaches where I often spent most of the days before working at night. Sometimes I would just lounge by the pool and relax reading all day but I was never short of something to do.
I made lots of friends over there and good contacts for working the bars which made coming back to England very hard to do. When I did arrive back to the U.K. it was raining! (no change there) and I immediatly decided to go back and work the full season in 2001 which will start at the begining of May. (I have been shivering since October)
The work I got in the bar's over there was spread around several of the islands resorts and was on weekly basis. Below is my weekly schedule:
Monday - The Local bar/Tsilavie
Tuesday - Angels bar/Kalamaki
Wednesday - Chielleos/Laganas
Thursday - Chicagos/Laganas
Friday - The Local bar/Tsilavie
Saturday - Oasis bar/Argassie
Sunday - Mermaids restaurant/Kalamaki
As you can see I didn't have too many nights out although the clubs stayed open till 3 am and my work finished at 12 midnight so I could always find a party somewhere after work. (and often did!)
Below are a few photos of the island and of the bars I worked in curtesy of Kirsty Wood and Con from Mermaids. Next year I promise I'll bring a camera!!!
