My Mother, My Bestfriend
The first person I would like to start with is my mother. Her name is Wilease Carletta Grant. She is approximately 50-years-old and the reason I say approximately is because children were not allowed to know their parents ages. My mother was born in Anderson, SC and was raised in New York. She was the daughter of a reverend and a school teacher. My mom attended North Carolina A&T where she earned a college degree in business. She worked as an accountant at South Carolina State University for 13 years and realized that was not her calling .After going back to college, she received her masters degree in counseling. Carletta now works for the Department of Mental Health in Greenville, SC and says "this is something she always wanted to do."
I admire my mother alot because she strives so hard for whatever she believes in. She's the type of woman that will go to the extreme to get what she wants or what she feels she deserves. Watching her as I grew up helped me to gain those qualities too. I hardly ever back done from a task once I've started it. If I had to use one word to describe my mother, it would be loving. She has her arms open to anyone. Everyone is given a fair chance in her eyes unless you prove yourself differently. All of my friends call her their second mom however, as I've grown up she's become more of a best friend to me. I feel it's important for a parent to be a parent while the child is growing up and is not quite sure of what their idenity is. But once a person has aquired their idenity then they need a friend to help them through life's obstacles.
Like all parents my mother has expectations for me and that is to be successful in life and not have the worries tht she had. I've realized that my mother does not want me to experience the things she went through. Not because she feels that I'm not strong enough, but because she simply wants me to have a better life. Unfortunately, I feel it's inevitable for that to actually happen because people and times change. I am glad to have experienced hard times because I am able to appreciate my mother more and myself whenever I succeed at something. My motto is "It's all a part of life, you must deal with it!" Carletta Grant's motto is " It's your red wagon, you can push it or pull it."
