PORTFOLIO AND URL's
Here's a collection of some business graphics that I've designed and produced
during the past year, as well as a couple of web sites I've put together just for fun.
I know what you're thinking.
"He spent an entire year, and this is all he has to show?!"
Well, not quite.
And as an added bonus to the viewing audience, I've included some relevant snippets
from a psychological/career aptitude test I've recently taken.
I figured what the hell....in a world where Jerry Springer is king and
public confession is the norm, it's the least I could do.
Flyers and Brochures
Front and back of bifold brochure.
Targeted to realty and property management markets.

A Day That Will Live in Infamy
Wednesday, May 17, 2000
1901 Broadway Street, Iowa City
My offices were located in the basement of this building,
which accounts for my rather slim portfolio.
I'm developing a habit of backing up and storing my data online.
Once burned, twice shy.
No pun intended, of course!
A Quick Peek Under the Hood
Let me tell you, for all of us self absorbed types who just can't get
enough of self analysis, this whole internet thing has been a godsend!
I remember when you had to pay a psychologist seventy-five bucks an hour to give you tests.
Now you can do it online for free - twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, all in the
comfort and privacy of your own home (or from your computer at work when the boss isn't looking).
But seriously, scattered throughout the heaps of pseudo-scientific garbage, personality profiling gimmicks
and career aptitude marketing scams on the web, there are a few nuggets of gold.
Here's one of them - http://www.assessment.com.
Take the free version of the Motivational Appraisal of Personality Potential (MAPP), unless of course
you're a real testing junkie and feel like coughing up $129.95 for the deluxe version.
This is a sample of what it had to say about me...
"Mark is perceptually, subconsciously, and consciously aware of fantasy, symbols, and symbolic
relationships, abstract ideas, options, and choice of options as they relate to creative or
innovative activities. Perception triggers ideas in Mark's mind, a process which just happens -
a process often called intuition. It is not conscious effort to logically 'come up with' creative ideas;
instead, the process is best identified with the statement that 'a thought struck me.'
Carl Jung said, 'Art is innate in the artist, like an instinct that seizes and makes a tool out of the
human being. The thing that in the final analysis wills something in him is not he,
the personal man, but the aim of the art.' "
"Mark is conscious of existence, meaning, purpose, potential and destiny of humankind, people and self.
Mark is motivated by a self-felt, self-accepted calling to the cause of good, growth, and gain in the
lives of others. Influential communication of ideas is a primary way of achieving those objectives.
Perception and thinking tend to be holistic and conceptual; i.e., seeing the big picture...
this is a major trait in cultural, intellectual, academic, and creative activities.
It includes ideas, concepts, theory, ethics, and values."
"Mark has natural savvy and curiosity about the nature of things and about 'what makes things tick',
and possesses a mind which is inquisitive, exploratory, analytical, and experimental."
"Mark feels both privilege and responsibility to use communicative talent (including persuasion) to
voluntarily provide beneficial information to others. This includes strongly motivated benevolent and
literary traits. Self-satisfaction comes almost exclusively from the subjective realization that the
information, voluntarily given, has been helpful to other persons.
That service communication is enhanced by Mark having empathetic interest in knowing the
other person or persons, their needs, wishes, and communicative (listening) orientation."
"Philosophical, literary, scientific, managerial and/or persuasive traits may be involved in Mark's
talent and drive to educate, train, or influence others. The main objective is to share knowledge
and information that will be useful. So, conveying information to others assumes that educating
self precedes educating others. Mark enjoys learning, sees the big picture, recognizes how
pieces fit the picture, and gains from passing information on to others."
"Mark is motivated and talented for mechanical engineering, including: (1) natural mechanical
awareness of assembly, fabrication, operation, leverage, motion, force, and power,
(2) ability to design and/or draw technical plans, (3) technical, statistical, and numerical analysis,
and (4) layout and installation capability. This highly motivated, multi-talented engineering
orientation probably means professional dedication to a major engineering vocation."
"Mark has the skills and interest to be responsible for technical, operational control of
tolerances and quality; for attainment of precise standards and identification of defects.
This is a very important skill in industries where production, maintenance, and repair require
exact precision, high quality, and almost zero in allowable defects or error."
And now, what we've all been waiting for - the top ten occupational areas in which I am
likely to be highly motivated and hugely successful!
(A drumroll, please!)
ART WORK: creative expression, ideas, painting, drawing
RESEARCH, SOCIAL SCIENCE, PSYCHOLOGY
TECHNICAL WRITING: logic, terminology, explanation
HEALTH PHYSICS: safety and occupational engineering
CREATIVE WRITING: imagination, vocabulary
INFORMATION PROCESSING: gather, verify, send, file
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH: probe, analyze, experiment
CORRESPONDING: prepare, edit, send communications
MUSICAL, CREATIVE: compose, arrange, improvise
PHOTOGRAPHY: aesthetics, form, color, perspective
Wow! All this information about me, and I only had to answer seventy-one
multiple choice questions!
Anyway, regardless of these results (which in my opinion are very accurate), it was an
interesting test. Take it, you'll find out a lot about yourself!
