Membership in The Pilsner Open
Being
a member of the Pilsner Open is a true honour that should not be taken
lightly. Over the five glorious years
of the Pilsner Open, there has been a core group of guys that have, year in
year out, made the Open what it is today, invitation only. Being invited is the only way to join the
Pilsner Tour, and although bribes are accepted (and encouraged), they do not
ensure that you will be asked to fill one of the rare and coveted Tour
openings. If you are invited, you will
enter that hallowed fraternity known as simply “The Pilsner”, on a trial basis
only, and be known as “a rookie”.
Rookies
are expected to understand the rules and abide by them at all times. Failure to do so will result in immediate
sanctions, which can include any or all of the following:
One or more “Buffaloes”,
Monetary fine (into the beer fund),
Tasks (usually a beer run),
Expulsion from future Pilsners, and
Stripped naked and duct-taped to a street sign
on the busiest road in town (although this has never actually been officially
sanctioned, Maurer annually threatens to carry this out, stating “We did this
in college…it’s hilarious!”)
And most demeaning of all…having to bunk up
with Maurer.
Rookies are not necessarily invited back for a sophomore
Pilsner. Rookies are continually judged
throughout the weekend and at the wrap-up on day three, are voted on by the
veterans. You will be allowed to state
your case prior to being voted on, which will be limited to one minute, or
until you piss a veteran off. If you
are in fact voted down, the decisions are final and you must leave the Tour
immediately and find your own way home.
