WHAT IS KNIGHT RIDER?
Knight Rider was a popular TV show that aired on NBC from September 26, 1982 to April 1986. It aired on Friday night and later on Sunday night. It was a show about an incredible car that could talk and David Hasselhoff(formerly of the soap opera "The Young and the Restless", now of "Baywatch" fame) who played Michael Knight. The Knight Industries 2000 was the most sophisticated car, it could talk, think and drive itself among other things. Knight Rider was canceled in 1986 by NBC when executives say that ratings had declined and the audience had disappeared. Considered by many to fail in the Friday time slot it was put in, it became one of the few hits that actually survived Friday nights due in part to the young demographics that the show brought in. Lasting 4 seasons, Knight Rider aired 84 episodes, six of which were two hours in length. NBC gave the show a high budget and most of the special effects were sophisticated and required stunt drivers. The show soon grew so fast that the pontiac trans-am the show had modeled the car after had caused high demand for pontiac. Often, the car was referred to as a black t-top instead.
WHO IS MICHAEL LONG?(ie. MICHAEL KNIGHT)
Michael Arthur Long was a cop working undercover with his partner Muntzy to bring down Tonya Walker and her friends. Michael's partner was shot and Michael took Tonya into the desert in his 82 trans-am to go after them. Michael thought Tonya was a friend, but she was working with them. Tonya shot Michael Long and left him for dead in the Nevada desert. There he was found by Wilton Knight. Wilton had been fighting Tonya and her cohorts for awhile, they even toppled his company. Wilton kept his eye on Michael Long, who was working undercover in order to expose them. Wilton rescued him from the Nevada desert. Michael Long's face had to be reconstructed due to the bullet hitting his metal plate. The bullet shot out and plastic surgery was needed. Wilton made Long mysteriously vanish and rechristened him Michael Knight. Micheal Long was played by Larry Anderson. He was born on January 8, 1949 and was presumed dead on August 8, 1982. He was a lieutenant with the 11th precinct of the L.A.P.D. and his badge number was 4262. He used to reside at 1834 Shore Road. Micheal fought in Vietnam and needed a metal plate in his head. A hit was put out on Long by Cameron Zachary, the reason why Michael was shot.
WHO IS MICHAEL KNIGHT?
Michael Knight served the foundation from 1982-1990, when he left to pursue other interests. Michael was given plastic surgery and the face of Wilton's imprisoned son Garth. He is always a ladies man. He refers to K.I.T.T. his car as his "buddy". David Hasselhoff plays the role in the series and in the 1991 NBC Movie Knight Rider 2000. Michael Knight loved women and that included his former fiancee Stephanie Mason who he marries in Scent of Roses. Michael's favorite foods are steak, eggs and greasy potatoes. Micheal was not Wilton Knight's first choice for the pilot program, but Wilton changed his mind and reopened the foundation due to Micheal's arrival. Micheal came out of retirement to help get the Knight Foundation back on its feet and help Devon secure a contract. Michael's father is dead, but his mother is still alive. KITT is always protective of Micheal. Michael once again left the foundation to pursue a quiet life.
WHO IS WILTON KNIGHT?
Wilton Knight was a self-made millionare who built the Foundation for Law and Government. His goal was to bring down criminals like Tonya, who operated above the law. He chose Michael even before he was shot, and saved his life. He gave him a new face and a new identity and the Knight Industries 2000, a car that would help him accomplish this goal. Wilton bequeathed to Michael that "One Man Can Make a Difference" on his deathbed. Wilton also was divorced from Elizabeth and they had a son, Garthe and a daughter, Jennifer. Wilton died in the very first Knight Rider episode from an unknown condition and left FLAG to Devon and the FLAG board to run. He was 81 when he died. Tonya Walker had suceeded in infiltrating some of FLAG's secrets. Wilton's first attempt at creating a car named K.A.R.R. failed due in part to the failure to incoporate the protection of human life. He then ordered Devon to build K.I.T.T. with Michael as the pilot. Turned his back on his son Garthe and left him to rot in an African prison for three life sentences.
WHAT IS THE KNIGHT INDUSTRIES TWO THOUSAND?(K.I.T.T)
It was a car designed to protect human life and serve Michael Arthur Long in fighting crime for the foundation. It was the second prototype to be constructed, the first being K.A.R.R. or the Knight Automated Roving Robot. K.I.T.T. had many features including turbo boost, ski mode, increased speed and a molecular bonded shell, among other things. K.I.T.T had a personality and could think and articulate thoughts on its own thru its CPU. It was virtually indestructable and could drive itself. K.I.T.T. by the year 2000 had been sold for stock parts. Michael brings him back and he now resides in the Knight Industries 4000.
WHO IS DEVON MILES?
Devon was Wilton's close friend who ran the foundation after Wilton's death. He was one of three to know K.I.T.T.'s MBS formula and was one of few who knew Michael's real identity. He was killed in Knight Rider 2000. He was played by Edward Mullhare, who died a few years ago, ending the hopes of any future original cast reunions. Devon also heads the Knight Foundation headquarters. A friend of Wilton's, he rushed production of the Knight Industries 2000 before Wilton died. He also helped created the Knight Industries 4000 and made the foundation a freelance organization with outside funding. Believed in Wilton's dream that one man can make a difference.
WHO IS BONNIE BARSTOWE?
Bonnie Barstow was Devon's top mechanic and K.I.T.T.'s mechanic in season 1, 3 and 4. She was hired by Devon to "fine-tune" K.I.T.T. whenever the car was damaged or needed upgrading. It was her supposed lack of sizzle that got her fired after the end of the first season. Hasselhoff was upset and the producers did not have a good reason to keep her replacement Rebecca Holden after season two. Patricia Mcpherson returned in Season 3 with the premiere episode "Knight of the Drones".
WHO IS APRIL CURTIS?
For season two, Rebecca Holden played K.I.T.T.'s mechanic. She replaced Patricia Mcpherson, and had no chemistry throughout that season with Michael. Her sudden arrival and dismissal were never explained by the writers. Her niece is helped by the foundation in Race for Life. She is held captive with Devon in Goliath returns. Added a aquatic synthesizer to KITT. Installed silent mode. Before joining FLAG she worked in a travel agency.
WHO IS RC3?
He is Reginald Cornelius III. He is also known as the Street Avenger and joined the cast in season 4. He helped rebuilt K.I.T.T. and often rides his motorcyle to help out. He was played by Peter Parros, who later became a soap star. RCIII fought crime in Chicago in the 4th season premiere Knight of the Juggernaut.
WHO IS WILLIAM DANIELS?
Best known for being Dr. Mark Craig on St. Elsewhere and his part as Mr. Feeney on Boy Meets World, he is the voice of K.I.T.T. You never see him, but he recorded his lines for the show every week. "I see K.I.T.T. as a Renaissance man." He has a sense of moral values and justice." His lines were spliced into the show's soundtrack each week. Daniels reprised the voice in Knight Rider 2000 and speaks of his part on the show in glowing terms.
WHAT IS THE KNIGHT AUTOMATED ROVING ROBOT(aka K.A.R.R.)
This is the prototype for K.I.T.T. and is shortened K.A.R.R. Wilton thought that the car lacked the abiltity to perserve human life and decided to put it into the Knight Museum. Two thugs accidently reactivated it and K.A.R.R. helped the two thugs steal loads of money. When face to face, K.A.R.R. and K.I.T.T. are identical. The voice of K.A.A.R. is the same voice that did Optimus Prime in the Transformers cartoon. K.A.R.R. in Trust Don't Rust avoided a head on collision with K.I.T.T and was thought to be destroyed. K.A.R.R. and K.I.T.T went head to head in K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R. and K.A.R.R. was destroyed by K.I.T.T. as they both turbo boosted in the air. K.A.R.R.'s return in the third season included a painting of the silver stripe, so as not to be associated with K.I.T.T. K.A.R.R. referred to K.I.T.T. as "an inferior production line copy."
WHO IS ELIZABETH KNIGHT?
Elizabeth Knight is Wilton's ex-wife and mother to Garthe and Jennifer. She helped Garthe while he was locked away in an African prison. She appears in Goliath and gets the formula for the Molecular Bonded Shell in order to coat Goliath and steal missles from Red Bluff. Devon used to be friends with her. Devon is drugged by her to get the component of the MBS.
WHO IS GARTHE KNIGHT?
Garthe was Wilton's son, who Wilton turned his back on after he was sentenced to three life terms in an African prison. Garthe and Elizabeth were always plotting against Wilton and Devon Miles. Michael's face was constructed in Garthe's image by Wilton. Garthe in the second season premiere almost destroys K.I.T.T. with GOLIATH in a head on collision. Garthe breaks out from prison in GOLIATH RETURNS and terrorizes Devon and April. Garth feels Michael is a "disgrace to his existence".
WHO IS JENNIFER KNIGHT?
Jennifer was Wilton's daughter and sister of Garthe Knight. In Knight of the Juggernaut she assumes control of the foundation and hates Michael for the fact that he has the same face as Garthe. Jennifer in the end realizes what good the foundation can do.
WHAT IS GOLIATH?
Goliath is a huge semi that was coated with the mbs and used to secure missiles at Red Bluff. Goliath and K.I.T.T. went head to head in GOLIATH, and K.I.T.T. was badly damaged. In GOLAITH RETURNS, the weakness that allowed Micheal to win before(the link between the semi and the rest of the back) had been fixed and GARTHE rebuilt GOLIATH better. Goliath is virtually indestructable and KITT often avoided confrontations with the vehicle.
WHO IS GLEN A. LARSON?
He is the creator of the Knight Rider series. He was a pop singer with the 1950's Four Preps group and later a writer-producer at Univeral Studios. He has developed many other TV shows, none which will be mentioned here. He also did not approve of the Knight Rider 2000 movie in 1991 and thought that it missed the point of the original series completely. He wrote the first episode Knight of the Phoenix and produced the show for four years.
WHO IS STEPHANIE MASON?
Stevie is Michael's former lover, who in Let It Be Me asks Michael to find who killed her most recent boyfriend. In The Scent of Roses Michael quits FLAG and decides to marry her. She is shot and killed at the wedding. Catherine Hickland played the role. Stevie and Michael first meet in Whitebird with Stevie unaware that Michael Knight is actually Michael Long. She is relocated in the witness protection program until Michael is shot and wounded. Devon goes and finds her so Michael and Stevie can be together again.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SERIES:
What is the Foundation for Law and Government (F.L.A.G.)?
The foundation for law and government was established by Wilton Knight to help those in need of assistance or who want to make a difference with their lives. Devon Miles was put in charge after Wilton's death and ran the foundation until the year 2000. A mobile semi also allows the foundation to be mobile and allow for Bonnie to make adjustments to KITT when needed. Devon believes that F.L.A.G.'s mission is to assist thoses who need it the most- the common person.
Who plays Michael Long at the very beginning of Knight of the Phoenix?
Larry Anderson played the role of Michael Long.
Was Michael's face crafted in Garthe's or Wilton's image.
According to Wilton in Knight of the Pheonix, Michael's face was crafted in his image. We find out that in the second season opener, Michael's face was by no random choice, but by Wilton's insistance.
Is that David Hasselhoff who gets shot by Tonya in the desert?
Yes. Larry Anderson is not standing there. Hasselhoff from the point he gets out of the car assumes the acting role(as apparent by the shadowy appearence in the desert)
In Deadly Manuevers, K.I.T.T. says "Towing is not my thing". He even breaks an alpha circut and complains about it. What's up with this?
After all, this was the second episode and the writer's couldn't get a feel for this yet. This is probably the boringest episode simply because it did not have a real good plot and the fact that K.I.T.T. could jump through walls, but not tow a car to an army base.
Why does K.I.T.T.'s voicebox change towards the end of season one and the beginning of season two? K.A.R.R.'s voice box looked like the new voice box, is this just a coincidence?
Improvements. The technical people wanted to make the voice box more like a voice synthsizer, rather than a solid box feel. Trust Don't Rust was actually the first time that the technical people tried to see if that would appeal to the viewers, which it did.
What is considered to be the most viewed Knight Rider episode?
Forget Me Not is the most watched Knight Rider episode ever worldwide.
In Goliath, Michael aims for Goliath's tire. Isn't this a stupid move?
Actually, it's really smart. If they were successful, they would knock an axel out and probably tip over the semi. Unfortunately, they hit Goliath and the MBS wrecked the car. Michael pulled away at the last second before hitting Goliath. Using the laser was a better choice though to seperate the two parts.
In Return To Cadiz, how is it possible for K.I.T.T. not to sink on water?
Its hydroplaning, which allows KITT to skim the water. KITT's hydrolics allowed him to accelerate at a higher speed, which in turn allowed the hydroplaning to occur.
How many episodes has K.I.T.T. had to have been rebuilt in the series?
Goliath, Knight of the Drones, Junkyard Dog and Knight of the Juggernaut.
Does K.I.T.T. turbo boost in every episode of Knight Rider?
No. Kitt never turbo boosts in Deadly Manuvers, Killer Kitt, Voo Doo Knight or Goliath.
How can I find episodes of Knight Rider on VHS?

What station currently airs episodes of Knight Rider?
No station currently airs Knight Rider across the United States
What is Super Pursuit Mode and what does it do?
Super Pursuit Mode(SPM) was introduced in the fourth season when K.I.T.T. gets demolished by the Juggernaut machine. When Bonnie and RC rebuild the outer shell, they discover they can increase K.I.T.T.'s speed by 40% more than what K.I.T.T. had before. The SPM was added in an attempt to give K.I.T.T. some more abilities. The change also included a C button, which allowed the trans am to retract and become a convertible with the top down. An emergency Breaking system is used in order to decelerate quickly for a quick stop. SPM can be retracted and KITT then returns to the regular trans-am mode.

KITT can accelerate 0-60 in 2 seconds with power boosters and is totally fuel efficient and can use any combustable fuel.
What are KITT's accessory features?
KITT can auto cruise, auto pursuit which locks in a target and follows that target, Auto Collision Avoidance(KITT can not hit anything unless so ordered to by its pilot), Emergency Eject which can eject the passenger to a distance in the air of about 50 feet. KITT's voice is a microprocessor that can feed off of a centralized processing unit that can link to other cpu units for information. Audio/Video can record as a vcr would, surveillance will alert the car to any possible vechicles or people who approach the area. KITT's self guidance system includes a radar used through the scanner located on the front as well as sonar. KITT also has x-ray ability(can not penetrate lead) and infa red which can detect heat. KITT's base compound is a tri-helical molecular bonded shell Plasteele 100 with a yield point of 570,000 psi with a rear axle load of 192,000 lbs, a front suspension load of 57,000 lbs per wheel and a frame that can withstand 223,000 lbs of tolerance.
What are KITT's primary functions?
KITT has automatic pilot, voice analyzer, infrared trcking scope with a range of 10 miles, Pyroclastic Lamination which withstands extreme heat, blood analyzer, microwave jammer, interior oxygenator, x-ray, flame thrower, rocket boosters, Smoke Screen, trajectory guidance system, oil jets, spectrograph, Grappling hook, Two wheel skis, graphic translator, Microwave ignition sensor, chemical analyzer and an electronic field disrupter as well as generator.
What things can KITT do?
Kitt can record and play scenarios, freeze frame, zoom, reproduce phot immagery, issue a hard copy print, detect vital signs and x-rays and produce maps charts as well as plot a course of navigation through diagrammatics.
What is the Molecular Bonded Shell?
This is what makes K.I.T.T. so indestructable. It was conceived by three people, one of them Devon Miles and when applied to the car it can smash thru anything without a dent. It had is limitations, which include: toxic waste, severe explosions and destabilizing agents using compounds of the same formula.
What's all that stuff on KITT's dash?
Michael jokingly said it was Darth Vader's bathroom when he first saw it. Ski mode allows Kitt to ride on two wheels from either side. Normal Cruise gives the pilot full navigational control. If KITT determines that the course of action is not on the list of priorities or if the pilot becomes diabled, then KITT would assume Auto Cruise mode. Auto Cruise mode enables KITT to navigate and plot a course in any direction. It wil use maps to plot the most direct route. Kitt has two sunroofs, Auto Roof R and Auto Roof L. Eject L and Eject R will eject a passenger a specific amount of feet and height by calculating various variables and the object's mass.
How does KITT use turbo boost?
Turbo boost provides KITT with the ability to gain vertical momentum at a higher speed in order to clear an obstruction. Turbo boost can also provide a burst of increased speed for a short period of time. Kitt often determines how much of a boost is needed and will often project what is needed to turbo boost out of an obstruction at any given angle.
What is the Passive Laser Restraint System for?
It works by keeping the pilot from being bounced around the car while traveling at high speeds. When you see Michael lean back in several episodes when speed increases or for a turbo boost, this system is in place to protect him.
How does KITT microjam something?
In the episode Inside Out, Bonnie demonstrates the microjam by having KITT play with the equipment in the semi. This enables KITT to jam other electronic devices and vehicles for a short duration of time. In Merchants of Death, KITT has to get real close in order to microjam the helicopter even though Bonnie increased its power signifcantly.
What does that comlink that Michael uses to talk to KITT do?
Michael's wristwatch is a communciation device that he uses to maintain contact with KITT. In addition to normal voice communications, it has some mystical powers such as opening up locks and transferring electronic image or pictures.

Advanced Knowledge Questions:
In ratings, did Knight Rider ever beat Dallas head to head?
Looking back at the ratings Knight Rider was the 1st series ever to seriously challenge Dallas. By serious, I mean the fact that KR's numbers didn't suck up against the huge monster that Dallas was. As for the viewers, I'd say you would have to throw in a few females for Knight Rider, considering Hasselhoff had a good following from The Young & The Restless. I'm sure some tuned in to watch him in primetime, but not enough to counter the women watching CBS. Here are some ratings for Feb. 1983, for the Evansille, Indiana market: 2/9/83 Knight Rider 11 Dallas 15 2/16/83 Knight Rider 23 Dallas 27 For this actual 4 week rating period Dallas aired all 4 weeks, the week before the 9th and the week after the 16th KR didn't air in the Evansville market, either because of NBC pre-emptions of local pre-emptions due to local sports. I don't know which I didn't check it against the KR airdates. But the average for Knight Rider was 17 rating and a 24 share. Dallas was a 23 rating and a 32 share.
Here's ratings for the same market for May 1983. 4/27/83 Knight Rider 24 Dallas 26 5/4/83 Knight Rider 19 Dallas 24 5/11/83 Knight Rider 16 Dallas 15 5/18/83 Knight Rider 13 Dallas 14 Averages worked out to be: Knight Rider 18 rating and a 30 share, and Dallas a 20 rating and a 33 share. So you can see the numbers were fairly close, even with KR beating Dallas by a point one week. Of course this was for one market and not the entire nation. Just thought some of you might enjoy seeing some numbers. Nowadays both Knight Rider and Dallas would be hits, with numbers like these, considering the way network TV's ratings have eroded.(Courtesy of Scott)

Is Michael Long's trans-am transformed into KITT or is KITT Michael's car?
Within the context of Knight of the Phoenix, Michael's car became KITT. Why else would the writers go out of their way to make the point that Michael drove a Trans Am and have him recognize his car? The intention is pretty clear in the episode, but it's blatant in the book version. It's not a very important plot element to the series, and they sort of rewrote KR history a bit to allow the existence of KARR. So, in the overall Knight Rider universe, KITT was not Michael's original car. However, there is a definite inconsistency because in Knight of the Phoenix, Michael's car became KITT. (Mike Pajaro)
How could KARR survive the cliff and still function almost as well as KITT?
There is a scene where Michael is unconscious while riding down a hill in KITT, and they are both coasting towards a rather high cliff. KITT wakes the KO'ed Michael up with that concentrated fresh air vent and then they briefly discuss just how in the world they will avoid going over. In this scene, KITT mentions that he has a high probability of surviving the impact with the ground below the cliff.
In fact, when KARR impacts with the surf, it would seem that the impact merely disconnected a major quick connect, which kept him from accessing some things. (But, not ignition. (I presume that KARR was unable to gain sufficient traction to escape, and gave up on the idea. Perhaps, that partially explains why KARR was further inland than he crashed at?)
And, if KITT, the "inferior line production" can drive away from that, than KARR most certainly was justified in surviving the milder water landing and softer sandy impact zone. It is presumed that the firey explosion was a late attempt to activate the turbo boost by KARR. (We see a similar example about that turbine fuel in the episode Junkyard dog when KITT's afterburners catch fire on the test course.)
KARR somehow became buried in the interior portion of the beach, thus avoiding any sun related damage. But, the sea water got its pounding damage in. Reasoning why the exposed scanner became so yellowed. What is not known is if KARR suffered from any internal rusting. Sure, the laser hitting the scanner port would damage computer parts. But, weaken the interior frame at the same time? I just don't see how this beam of light would bounce around under the hood like a ricochet bullet. Maybe, weaken any supports right behind the scanner. But, not much else.
I don't recall KARR having any new features. But, he did have some that was not amongst KITT's original equipment. (The laser was stolen.)
As for the license plate. That was a mistake they made in Trust Doesn't Rust, when their budget was a bit tighter and the plate wasn't bothered with.(JUP)
Does KITT have a regular ignition switch?
KITT indeed has a normal keyed ignition on the steering column. Occasionally, there is a scene where Michael starts up KITT with the key by reaching around the gull wing wheel and twisting. But, KITT is more special than that...So, with KITT's permission, using the power button on the dash is all that is needed to turn the engine over with. So, from a story stance, the key is sort of an override that is out of KITT's control. Just like accessing systems with the numeral pad. (JUP)
What does Boost 2 do?
Never seen it in use, either. Unless one of the books explains about it, we can only be left with our
imaginations and deductive reasoning skills to explain this button. Concluded that it was there in case KITT needed to go so fast that the straight forward turbo boost was actually maxed out. (Which, it seems the writers never really did think ever happened.) Like some sort of overdrive feature.(JUP)
In Trust Doesn't Rust, Karr has a red scanner and no license plate. In KITT vs KARR, KARR has a yellow scanner and license plate KARR. I have also wondered why KARR always had the voice modulator with the vertical lines while the first one installed in KITT was the plain box. I remember in "Hearts of Stone" KITT asked Michael if he liked the new voice modulator. Since KARR was the prototype and he had the better voice modulator, why wasn't it installed in KITT in the beginning?
Devon explains that that he was struggling to build the new car (KITT) as Wilton was dying, so the more elaborate voice modulator could have been just one of those small details that they didn't have time for.
We never get a good enough view (or so I've heard) of KARR's plates in the first one to see the KARR plates. (Somehow, I think KNIGHT plates were caught on film, though.) This is due to the first episode being filmed during the lower budget days. The scanner turned yellow due to the forces of the sea water. (Along with loss of some system effectiveness.) In KOTP, KITT had the single flashing box. They had to stick with it for awhile to keep in sync. The three line version was the planned one, but wasn't ready in time for KOTP's filming. (Or, Bonnie just liked KARR's voice box so much when she was captured, that she made one for KITT and installed it weeks , or months, later.)

Why does KARR have a grey stripe in KITT vs KARR? How did it just get there?
KARR is all black for the first half of the KvK. He tells John that he wants to alter his appearance, and gets a new paint job. This scene was deleted in the syndicated version of the show. (Mike)
Was there a 5th season of Knight Rider in which the character Bonnie dies?
One of the more popular questions a fifth season of Knight Rider could not have been possible, the ratings slipped and the story lines had faded. Not to mention NBC was footing the bill and was not making profit on it. As far as Bonnie dying that is a rumor which Neil of Knight Rider Online has brought to our attention in his rumor page a few years back.(Richie)
Where does KITT see out of?
Knight Rider 2000, the 1991 NBC movie, tells us that KITT had these large, camera eyes that could swivel a little and looked something like the eyes of HAL, from the movie, "2001". (Minus the red glow.)
It is believed that KITT's main eye was in the sensor port. (The one that has the moving red light. I believe it was first seen in the first season, when we see KITT driving himself to get Michael out of jail in the middle of the night, and both monitors show his path, centered with the headlight's beams.) But, the problem is that KITT's visibility is the envy of government satellites. KITT could see the inside of his cabin. (This is presumed to be from an eye centered in the top of the back seat. Several times, we see this shot on other computer monitors.) And, KITT could follow Michael's movements inside buildings via the amazing comm watch and security cameras. But, KITT could also bank his vision in impossible methods. And, his X-Ray vision was incredibly clear on the colors. (Heck, I think he even permitted Michael to view Bonnie in the semi-nude, once.)
For all intents and purposes, KITT's "eyes" were in the scanner port and in the cabin area. (Although, there may have been a couple in the tire wells.) (JUP)
KITT's engines were actually turbines, but what made the difference if Michael was driving in 'normal' mode and 'pursuit' mode??? Did the two modes automatically change the way the turbines operated?
There are two plausible reasons why KITT had to use Pursuit Mode:
1) Much like a switch from Normal Cruise to Auto Cruise, the overriding functionality of the car changed. In Normal, all systems are operating at standard output, and the navigation abilities are handled by the user. Auto Cruise redirects AI control to the navigational systems, as well as everything else; KITT is no longer a tool, but an autonomous entity.
Activating Pursuit Mode redirects the car's abilities to the propulsion system (ie - the turbine). Basically, the turbine is ramped up to 100% output, and any/all auxiliary power (usually used to operate things like the Anharmonic Synthesizer, etc.) is transferred to both the turbine, and to the coolant systems. Little things don't work anymore, or at least as quickly as they normally would. Example: I doubt the Auto Roof functions were Hot Standby during Pursuit Mode - they simply aren't used in that Mode.
2) The turbofan is actually reconfigued into a turbojet, once it reaches a speed barrier. Very unlikely (the US Armed Forces can't really do this one yet), but it's KR; talking computers, indestructible cars... it's certainly possible. (The Hasselhoff)
In Goliath, could have Michael actually made a ramjet?
Michael could, technically, make KITT's turbine into a ramjet; however, it wouldn't work from a dead stop. A ramjet, by it's very nature (and it's name), "rams" air in order to turn the turbine. Unfortunately, the vehicle must be moving fast enough, already, for the "ramming" to take place (at least over a few hundred mph). Therefore, as no air was forced into the turbine (that's what the blades are for), the turbine would not create any thrust, and KITT would be stuck in the desert. (The Hasselhoff)
Was KITT registered to Michael Knight or The Foundation for Law and Government?
Interesting issue... KITT was most definitely the property of FLAG (Knight in Disgrace, The Scent of Roses...) but I'm not sure how California DMV disntinguishes between ownership vs. registration. I don't think FLAG was worried about people making a connection between Michael, KITT, and the Foundation. Their bigger concern was when people did background checks farther back and discovered Michael Knight didn't exist before 1982. My gut tells me that KITT was registered to Michael Knight, and that anyone doing a background check would find that he worked for FLAG. In Knight of the Phoenix, when Michael is first leaving Devon they have this exchange (might not be EXACT words but it should be real close):
Michael: "You can't stop me"
Devon: "I can certainly take the car away"
Michael: "I'll get another one. Besides, it's in my name"
Devon: "That's where you're wrong"
At which point Devon hands Michael his new identity, with license and credit cards. (Not sure if he hands him registration) When Michael says that the car is in his name, he's thinking "Michael Long". When Devon says he's wrong, he could mean "the car is in your name, but you are wrong about what your name is" OR "you are wrong, the car is registered to FLAG". I think the strong implication is that KITT was registered to Michael. It would kind of go along with Wilton's vision of one man making a difference and the trust he had placed in Michael. The registration address reads as follows: Michael Knight,2457 Ybarra Rd Nores, California, 93666 (Mike and Knightimmortal)
Where is the actual KITT car used in the series now?
ALL of the KITT cars used in the series have been destroyed. They were destroyed because of an agreement that Universal had with Pontiac. All of the original cars had a big ol' destruction ball put through them. Approximately 10 minutes after the original cars were destroyed offical replicas commissioned by Universal were made by George Barris and/or Jay Ohrberg. Two were sold to David Hasslehoff. One of these now resides in Keswick Cars of the Stars in England. i don't remember where the other is. There are many replicas around some offical some personal, but there are no original cars left. Except....there is a rumour, and it is that, a rumour, that one of the stage hands drove off with one of the KITTs. If so he is now in deep hiding and no longer works for Universal. But as previously stated this is a rumour and is more than likely as real as the mysterious Unseen 5th Season of Knight Rider which although there may have been scripts for it is doubtful it has any footage. (EL SIMSO)
What kind of fuel does KITT run on?
In the first season episode "Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death", KITT's systems were temporarily changed over to a Hydrodgen based fuel because the race was based around demonstrating the alternative fuel source, and car of the future, otherwise, for the most part, from what I can remember, (I could be wrong) KITT ran on standard high octane fuel. We even get to see Michael fueling him up in the Season 1 Episode: "No Big Thing" (although did you notice how the fuel tank fill hole went from beneath the license plate to the standard one on the side in later episodes?) (Knightimmortal)
Do all 84 episodes have teasers in them?
Except for Knight of the Phoenix and Knight of the Drones, the other 82 aired with teasers. Knight of the Drones aired some scenes and then cut into the title sequence. The syndicated versions merge several scenes together and leave out part of the opening.
Who does K.A.R.R.'s voice in KITT vs KARR?
KARR's voiceover was done by Paul Frees, he's appeared in movies over the years (The Thing, War of The Worlds, etc) his voice has been heard in cartoons and commercials, etc for many, many
years. KARR's voice wasn't credited in KITT vs. KARR.(Jmaster852)
