Meiji Jingu is dedicated to Emperor Meji and his consort Empress Shoken on November 1st, 1920. Emperor Meiji passed away on July 30th, 1912. This shrine of national prayer for peace and prosperity was built as a result of combined efforts of all the Japanese to commemorate his virtues. The shrine building was lost by fire during the last war, but was reconstructed in 1958,being supported by all the loyal Japanese. The felling of reverence and yearning of the people for the Emperor and Empress are ever increasing.

The shrine is located in the middle of a gorgeous 175-acre garden.
