What would you think if I said “America
is the best country in the world?”
Obviously, any non-american reader
of this web site would think I had just cooked up
the fattest, juiciest lie in the world. America,
the beautiful, right?
The land where abortions are performed
daily.
...Where members of the Ku Klux Klan
used to be free to lynch African Americans.
...Where people can be addicted to
any of the following: gambling, cocaine, crack, pot,
heroin, violence, and all sorts of evil.
...Where our politicians commit adultery
instead of setting an example.
...Where Madeline Albright says we
should fill a role as being the police of the world.
She and her message were shouted down at Ohio State University
in 1998, when
attempting to drum up support for former President Bill
Clinton’s foreign policies.
No. The United States of America
is not the best country in the world. It has no
monopoly on democracy and freedom of speech. It
does not hold the monopoly on the
best educational system, the best medical care system,
or the best technology in the world.
So, when I heard that somebody had
said this: “how dare they [those terrorists] do this
to us [America]?” following the brutal terrorist act
that came on 11 September 2001, I
had to do something about this. I had to say something.
First of all, there was a major attitude
problem in the heart of the person who originated
this line. America is no more and no less deserving
of criticism or terrorism. This is
because all nations have problems. Because every
person in the entire world fails to meet the
exacting standards of God, all nations also fail to meet
the exacting standards of God.
“...All have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God.” (Romans 3: 23)
Not just all people, but all Nations
have fallen from the glory of God.
Our entire world has been corrupted
by sin, including the nations whose people follow
Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, atheism, and every other religion
that exists. This is the
deepest and heaviest weight, and it sinks all nations.
The only nation which can stand up
to God’s standards is the nation which is built on
the principles of the Lord. Ancient Israel occasionally
lined up with the standards of the Old
Testament, but they also strayed like all the other nations.
So, the question “how dare those terrorists
attack us?” has an attitude problem.
That is because terrorism has violated
the law of the Ten Commandments...
“YOU SHALL NOT MURDER! (Exodus 20:13,
exclamation and capitals are my revision)”
The question of “how dare those terrorists
do this?” is a question which the LORD God,
ruler of the Universe, is allowed to ask. From
heaven, HE calls the thunder and the rain.
HE calls out each star by its name at night. HE
holds power over an endless dominion,
an everlasting kingdom that we cannot see.
It is HIS voice which should cry out
in anger.
It is HIS place to judge, and it is
HIS place to avenge.
HE would have said:
“HOW DARE THESE PEOPLE KILL THE INNOCENT?
WHO ARE THESE MEN
THAT KILL AND MAIM WHEN MY SON PREACHED LOVE?”
Prophets would have spoken out against
these terrorists, saying that the wrath of God
would be upon them. Their voice would be added
to the outcry, not against the mass
murder of Americans, but of the mass murder of people
in general.
As a good example of something gone
too far, take a look at Jehu (II Kings 9). The
prophet Elisha ordered one of his followers to say this
to Jehu: “This is what the LORD
says: ‘I anoint you king over Israel.’ (verse 3)”
This is what Elisha’s follower said to Jehu
instead of what he should have said:
This is what
the LORD, the God of Israel says: "I anoint you king over the LORD’s
people
Israel.
You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the
blood of my
servants the
prophets and the blood of all the LORD’s servants shed by Jezebel.
The whole
house of Ahab
will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel--slave
or free. I
will make
the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the
house of
Baasha son
of Ahijah. As for Jezebel, dogs will devour her on the plot of ground
at Jezreel,
and no one
will bury her." (verses 6 to 10)
I don’t know how that sounded to you,
but it sure sounded like a lot more was said the
second time around. Elisha’s follower went over
the deep end, talking to Jehu when he
was instructed to say one thing and then leave.
People who support terrorism are just like
prophets who say too much. It’s one thing to give
time and money to a charity. It is an
entirely different thing for a person to give time and
money to an organization that works
to kill people.
This is the same brand of evil that
propelled Naziism. After all, how did Hitler get his
funding? He didn’t just walk into the Reichstag
one day and ask the Chancellor for a few
million deutche marks. He had to get them from
somewhere else until the Nazi Party
could integrate itself into the German government.
We are all creations. We all
have a creator, the Lord, who gives life to us each day.
The terrorists took away life, stole it from the hand
of God. They prescribed death
sentences to people who the LORD may have spared with
mercy. They condemned the
innocent and prevented sinners from repenting, returning
to God, and being saved from
sin. They have cut off in the middle something
that should have gone on for days, weeks,
months, or even years longer than it had.
The terrorists did this all in the
name of Allah.
As I said in the page before, I do
not choose to believe any person who tries to scare
me into accepting his ideas. And I refuse to believe
in any 'god' just because my life is
threatened.
