Currency ideas from James 'Porphyre' Grahn
Each currency is carefully made to reflect different aspects of today's currencies.
Only three currencies are needed:
The Credit |
The most widely used form of currency in the known galaxy. Most humans and all Reol use credits. The Credit is stable. The Credit will be used in most transactions. |
The Regimental (a.k.a. the Reggie) |
The Regiment devised its own form of currency as a control on its populace.
The Reggie is the mandatory form of currency when in Regiment controlled
space. It's rather easy to exchange credits or waterstones into Reggies
(though you need to use the black market to get a decent exchange rate),
but near impossible to exchange Reggies for another currency. This makes
it difficult for Regiment citizens to leave without being forced into poverty
(with the exception of the cargo they may carry).
The Regimental is stable, but the 'legal' exchange rate is drastically tilted in favor of the Regimental. Therefore, the black market thrives in the monetary business in spite of the heavy policing and fierce prosecution of the Regiment. The black market will preform currency exchanges in both directions at more reasonable rates than any legal transactions. |
The Waterstone |
Waterstones are the hard currency favored by Ruks, though, dispite
what you may think, transactions aren't much more difficult than with the
electronic currencies.
Transactions may occur at any major political system. It is important to note: the waterstone, though fairly stable in Ruk territory, it is highly suspect in human space. In human systems, the value of waterstones can vary wildly based on speculation, rumor, and diplomatic relations with Ruk representatives. |
