Background |
First contact with the Talosians by the Captain of the USS Enterprise,
Christopher Pike. The Enterprise respond to a distress call on Talos
IV, where they found the crew of the USS Columbia which had crashed on
the planet. The colonists were all aging male scientists, with the
exception of one 18 year old female who was born around the time they crashed.
Second contact takes place 31 years after the USS Columbia crashed, (13
years after the first visit.) |
Editors Notes |
Talos IV has not been completely explored and Star Fleet has deemed
the results of the contact with the inhabitants of this planet as classified.
The Talosians have strange powers, and are able to create illusions.
They are a dying race. They have started a "zoo" where they collect
various races to study in an attempt to locate a race able to succeed them
after their extinction. |

the entry of Coridan into the Federation. |
Editors Notes |
Tellus has a thinner atmosphere than Earth, which led to overdeveloped
nasal openings, similar in appearance to the snouts of Terran swine.
Tellarites take immediate strong offense to such comparisons. They
have better hearing than normal, and night vision. They are suspicious,
argumentative and brash, by Terran standards. Those who trust too
much or give in too easily are considered weak fools in their society,
thus they make poor diplomats, but make good engineers, scientists and
terraformers, and make excellent legal representatives. They tend
to dislike physical confrontation.
Tellarites are very fond of good food and drink - and a lot of it.
Fortunately, alcohol has little adverse effect on them - it only makes
them even more stubborn. Nevertheless, they are capable of going
twice as long without food or water as the average Terran, since they carry
an extra abdominal roll of fatty tissue. This abdominal tissue makes
them look portly, but such is natural for a Tellarite, and they can, in
extreme cases, live off of this fatty tissue for quite a while. Generally,
though, they'd rather not skip meals. |

Background |
First contact occurred when the USS Defiant was trapped in interspace
in 2268, the Tholians accused the original Enterprise of violating a territorial
annex of the Tholian Assembly while trying to rescue it. The ongoing
conflict with the Tholians flared up again in 2353 when the Tholians attacked
and nearly destroyed a Federation starbase, with the loss of nearly all
personnel. Civilian advisor Kyle Riker was the only survivor in the
incident. Conflict with the Tholians continued well into the 24th
century, and simulated Tholian battles were part of the StarFleet Academy
curriculum as recently as 2355, when Will Riker was able to calculate a
sensory blind spot in a simulated Tholian vessel, and use that to his advantage.
Tensions remained sufficiently high that Ambassador K'Ehleyr, in 2367,
feared a Klingon civil war would eventually involve the Tholians, although
diplomatic relations between the Tholians and the Federation were established.
In 2371, a Tholian ambassador visited Deep Space 9. A Tholian observer
was present at the ill-fated Antwerp Conference on Earth on stardate 49170.65 |
Editors Notes |
Civilization known for its punctuality and highly territorial nature.
Tholians have only been seen in one episode, TOS: "The Tholian Web, and
even that was just a few shots on the Enterprise main viewer. Those
shots which used visual effects and a puppet designed by Mike Minor, seemed
to show the faceted head of Commander Loskene. It was not, however,
made clear if that was indeed Loskene's head, or if it was simply a helmet.
It was also not clear if Loskene's body below the viewer's frame was humanoid
or
something more exotic. They utilize an odd form of weapon known as
the Tholian Web. It is an Energy field used by the Tholians to entrap
a disabled enemy spacecraft. A tractor field is spun by two Tholian
ships that remain outside of weapons range, encircling the target vessel.
Upon completion of the web, the field is contracted destroying the ship
within. While attempting to rescue the USS Defiant in 2268, the Enterprise
nearly fell victim to a Tholian web. The Tholians create a fine silk
fabric that is very difficult to obtain outside of the Tholian Assembly.
The Tholians signed the non-agression pact with the Dominion in 2372. |

Background |
First Federation contact with the species came on the spacestation
K-7 when a trader known as Cyrano Jones sold some to Enterprise crew members.
Soon the station and the Enterprise was overrun by the creatures.
The Tribbles helped Captain Kirk expose a Klingon spy attempting to poison
a shipment of grain. The Klingons in response deemed the Tribbles
as enemies and exterminated the species as a whole. The creatures
re-appeared in the 24th Century on the Federation Space station DS9.
Currently under investigation. |
Editors Notes |
They are warm-blooded bisexual mammals capable of reproducing at an
incredible rate. It would seem that they are born pregnant.
They will not have the energy to reproduce without food, however.
For some unknown reason, Tribbles do not like Klingons, and will shriek
loudly if even exposed to one. Tribbles will return the affection
shown them by humanoids by somehow empathically projecting feelings of
peace and relaxation. They live about as long as the average well-kept
Terran guinea pig. |

Trill humanoids are very interested in the welfare of their symbiont.
They even enter into contests from which the winners become the next class
of people honored to become hosts. Trill humanoids are very honored
by their selection to become hosts. Some potential hosts who do not
make the cut consider suicide. |
Editors Notes |
Trill are a symbiotic species consisting of a humanoid host and a worm-like
symbiont which lives in the abdomen of the host. The worm-like symbiont
is extremely long-lived. The host does not lose any of their memories,
and they are capable of accessing memories of the symbiont. If the
host body is dying, the symbiont is transferred to another host.
After four days, the merger between the host and the symbiont is permanent.
Should the host body die without removing the symbiont within 96 hours,
the symbiont will also die. It cannot survive absolute destruction
of the host body. All skills are transferred to the new host, but
are based off of the new host's physical and mental abilities. Occasionally,
Trill symbionts may be damaged by Transporter use, but most Trill do not
seem to be bothered by beaming. |
