Plot
A boy tricks his younger brother into thinking that he has killed him, the
idea is ment for fun as a repay of pratical jokes. The joke gets tragic
consequences when the young child runs off in terror and eats a poisonous
fruit. Dr. Crusher has no way of treating the child and the Enterprise have
to break the shoreleave to rush to a medical facility while keeping the
poisened child in isolation, as the infection is able to spread. As Geordi
races to compleate a checkup on the warp drives and thereby slowly
increasing the speedcapacity Data starts to act strangely, he does not
answer to any questions and simply sits quiet at his post. Suddenly the
Enterprise changes course and jumps to maximum speed. LaForge tries to get
the bridge to slow down, while Wesley struggels to return to the ploted
course. Just as the bridgecrew begins to realise that Data is not acting as
he should the envioment control to the bridge fails. Riker and Picard orders
evacuation of the bridge but Data crosses them by staying, then he activates
forcefields on all accessways to the bridge. In engeneering Picard realises
what the situation is an set Wesley and Geordi to try an regain control of
the ship, when their work progresses and they chooses to try and seperate
the ship, Data discovers their plan and uses the accesscodes of Picard to
gain full control of the Enterprise. As time passes the young child begins
to run out of time, and Data enters orbit around an unknown planet, once
there he uses forcefields along corridors to get to a transporter room.
There he reactivates the disabled transporter and beams onto the planet.
When he has left the ship Picard chooses to take a chance and reducing the
forcefield in sickbay and use the extra power to gain control of the bridge,
this puts the crew back on the bridge, only to find that Data has disabled
all commandfunctions and has entered a complicated password. On the planet
Data finds Dr. Soong his creator, but Soong has blocked Data's last memories
so he is unaware of the situation onboard the Enterprise. A small ship
enters orbit of the planet and LaForge and Wesley works along with O'Brien
to get a transporter back online, they manage to send a team onto the
planet, where they find Data disabled and Soong dying. Data's brother Lore
had visited the planet too, has taken Data's identity to steal an
emotionchip from Soong, when Soong discovered that he confronted Lore only
to be lethal injured, Lore escaped while Soong tells Data how to regain his
memories and clear the Enterprise.
