Plot

The Enterprise encounters a mysterious life-form that entraps the Enter- prise in its gravitational field. None of the Enterprise's engines or wea- pons can be used to free the Enterprise before the ship is dragged by the entity into a cosmic string. Meanwhile, Troi discovers that she is empathi- cally blind and resigns as ship's counselor because she feels she is unable to perform her duties.
