Plot
The Enterprise is sent to rescue another Federation vessel that lost
contact with Starfleet, and has not been heard from except a distress call.
They finds the ship drifting in space and Riker leads an awayteam to the
ship once there they find all members of the ship killed under violent
circumstances apparently some sort of insanity had infected the crew and
they had then begun to battle among themselves. Troi finds a survivor in one
of the quarters, he turns out to be Betazoid like helselve but he appears to
be compleatly paralysed by some strange experience, Troi imidiatly begins to
use telepathic communication to try and get in touch with the survivor.
During the investigation LaForge and Dr. Crusher gets more and more
confused, LaForge can't get the engins on the other ship to work, and
Crusher can't find any reason at all for the deaths of the crew. During this
timeperiod several members of the crew including Picard experiences
halucinations and Troi begins to dream the same dream over and over again,
actualy it's more like a nightmare. Troi and Crusher goes to see Picard and
asks that the ship should be taken away from the area. Picard has Geordi
summon the last informations needed and orders departure, but when they're
ready to leave the engins suddenly fails to move the ship, and the crew
realises they've been cought by the same that killed the other ship. Based
on the situation Picard orders Riker to get some sleep to try and hold both
leading officers minds in order, but Riker don't get much sleep, everytime
he tries to relax he begins to see things that aren't there, snakes in his
bed and other persons in his room. Picard also gets worse, and asks Data to
take command, as he appears to be uninfected. Troi seeks the help of Dr.
Crusher to remove the nightmare but it won't go away, during the checkup on
Troi Crusher suddenly begins to wonder why she can't remember any dreams of
her own for the last period of time. Crusher begins to conduct an experiment
about the resting of the persons on board, at the same time Troi manages to
get through to the survivor, and discovers that he has had the same
nightmare as herselve se quickly realises that it's because of some
telepathic interference from another alien race, Crusher finds that noone is
capable to reach REM sleep, and thereby resting, this will eventualy drive
everybody insane it's just a matter of time, Troi begins to realise that her
nightmares actualy is a message from an alien ship, who is also traped in
the spacedisortion, working along with Data, who's now acting captain, she
tries to find a way to free the ships, in the process she also realises that
the telepathic messages blocks sleep for humans. Data begins to list the
elements the Enterprise is capable of generating, and tries to find a way
for Troi to send that information to the aliens, while scanning the lists
they come uppon an element that fits in the message, "one moon circuling",
they realises that that might be a description of hydrogen, and the message
then means that the aliens want hydrogen so they can produce an explosion to
break the lock on the ships. Now it's just a matter of having Troi sending a
message to the aliens telling them that the element is beeing released by
the Enterprise, but Data determains that they've only got enough power to
produce hydrogen for a short time, Troi must get the message to the aliens
before the Enterprise runs out of power.
