Plot
On a quiet evening, Picard visits the bridge where Data is in command,
he is doing som study and wants to contact a friend who also works at the
same interest, that is however not posible as the Stellar Scientists on
board has asked for radio scilence while conducting an experiment, soon
Picard discovers that most of the ship is off-line due to that experiment.
Picard gets curious and walks into the lab, only to interupt the experiment
and destroying 4 hours of work for the new head, Commander Daren, she
explains about the project and about herselfe, They discover that they have
a mutual interest in music, and their relationship begins to develop, mostly
to the joy of those around Picard, but Riker feels a bit unsertain about his
position, dealing with the requests from Daren. The romances a brought
interupted when a distresscall from a colony shows up, there is an intense
plasmafire in the atmosphere of the planet, and the structure will not
withstand a fire of that strength. The problem is that the Enterprise don't
have enough time to evacuate the residents, but Daren gets an idea to create
a shield to wear off the fire for as long as it takes to beam the colonists
off. Setting up the experiment Daren realises that they have to stay at the
generators to maintain the shield's effect, but when the fire reaches them
it'll interfere with transporter and communications, Picard orders them to
stay where thay are, and gets the last people off the planet, but several
shield-teams is missing including the one including Nella Daren, the waiting
time while the fire passes is horrible for Picard.
