Thanks to Fred Shepler, and some posts by Cheryl Meyers at the Ancestry Boards (have been unable to contact her). I have been able to push this line back a few more generations.
John B. is suspected to be a son or grandson of one of the three Shepler brothers, Mathias in particular is mentioned in some sources having John B. Shepler [my 3rd great grandfather] actually being the John B. Shepler Jr. mentioned in the 1880 Census for Montgomery, Wood Co., OH whos parents were born in PA. Sure enough, there is a John Shepler, son of Mathias who was born in Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland Cty (county?), PA, but some sources say he died there with others saying he moved to Fairfield, OH.

Born 1740 in the Rhenish Palatinate, Germany. Married Margaret Houseman (she was born 1754 in Yorkshire, England). Died 25 Apr. 1823 in Rostraver Twp., Weatmoreland Co., PA. Buried in Fells Church Cemetery, Rostraver Twp.
moved from Frederick Co., Virginia to Westmoreland Co., PA before the Revolutionary war.

Born 1773 Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland, PA. Married 1785 to Rachel Elizabeth Case (b. 1768, d. bef. 1825, dau. of Butler Case & Elizabeth Cairns). Died 1825 but in Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland, PA or Fairfield OH?.
At least one son: John B. Shepler Jr. ?
My 3rd Great Grandfather, John B. Shepler [Jr. ?]
Born 1840 in Ohio. Married 1864 in Findlay, OH to Amanda Boroughs or Barough (she was born 9-11-1849 and died 1-12-1935 in Williamston, MI). Died 23 Jan. 1900 at Grand Ledge, MI. Burried at Delta Center Cemetery, Eaton Co., Delta Twp in Sec. B1, Lot 29, Plot 1.
Sources disagree as to birth place, either Toledo, Wood Co., or Findlay, both in Ohio.
Civil War Veteran of the III Ohio Infantry, Co. C. (unless there are two John Sheplers in the area who both died in 1900.
Possibly also of the 13th Regiment of the Veteran Reserve Corps, Co D.

Born Aug 23rd, 1882 in Michigan. Married 1st in 1903 to Maime Turrell or Mamie Turrill. Divorced. Married 2nd Leona Belle Jakeway. Died Dec 20th, 1965 in Lansing, Ingham Co., Michigan. Buried in Delta Center Cemeter, Eaton Co., Delta Twp. sec. B1, lot 29, plot 4.
Listed as "Charley" on his 1917-18 World War I Draft Registration Card for Ingham county.

The 1910 census has the family at Manton Village, Cedar Creek Twp., Wexford Co., (up north) in MI though all other places associated with the family (all birth places, some marriage places) are in Ingham County in MI, however the eldest child Ernest apparently later moved to Wexford Co sometime after the 1930's. In the 1920 census the kids (from the first marriage) are with their mother in Ingham Co.
