Welcome to what was once known as deepest, darkest Africa. That was because back in the previous century, so much of it was unexplored. Now of course this continent is one of the most dynamic and exciting places in the world.
The OBC and I just finished a long trip through much of Africa. Below you will find links to specific pictures were you can see me (the STAR of these pages, lest you forget!) at some of the most memorable and exciting spots in this great continent.
For your information, these pages are laid out in sequence, so if you start on the first one, you can simply keep clicking on "next" until you get all the way through a particular country, then it will bounce you back here for the next one. Or you can choose a specific link below that intrigues you and go directly there.
So let's start your tour!
If you want to know more about Egypt, there are more resources on the web than you could ever imagine. Here's a few to get you started:
Guardian's Egypt - Main Gate - A wonderful and BIG site where you can learn almost anything you would ever want to know about Land of the Pharaohs.
Horus Web Site - A website designed especially for kids about Egypt.
The Wonders Of Ancient Egypt - A nicely done site by a "fan" of the Pharaohs.
Egypt on the Net - One of those web rings, this one about guess what.
Axum - The Holy City
For more information of this beautiful country, try these sites:
Library of Congress / Country Studies / Ethiopia - Tons of information.
Cyber Ethiopia - Another site that will overwhelm you with facts.
Ethiopia: Contrasts - Someone's personal page, slow-loading, but with a bunch of neat pictures.
Kenya is a popular tourist destination, and here's a few places you should check out:
Kenyaweb - Kenya's Definitive Internet Resource - A nicely put together site with loads of information.
The Kenya Tourism Foundation - In case you ever wanted to go there (and I highly recommend it), this is a good place to start.
Wildlife of Kenya - Here's some pictures taken by a couple vacationing there.
To learn more about Tanzania, visit:
TANZANIA - A page created by someone in Scotland about Tanzania.
Notes on a trip to Tanzania - Including lots of marvelous pictures.
The Zanzibar Archive - Just for the heck of it, here's an interesting site all about the islands of Zanzibar (part of Tanzania now, as reflected by the origins of the country name: Tanganyika + Zanzibar = Tanzania).
Before you get started here, yes, these are actually two different countries, and I have grouped them together because I have only one picture from each, a spectacular feature they both share:
Neither of these countries are among the most popular tourist destinations in Africa (though perhaps they should be), and their web presence is not, shall we say, overwhelming. However, here's what I could find:
The Zimbabwe Network - A rather dry but nonetheless informative site
ZimWEB - An online magazine about Zimbabwe.
Zambia Today - A compilation of articles about Zambia by its own media.
Web resources are not plentiful for this rarely visited country, but here are a few:
Republic of Namibia Homepage - This is their official homepage, although I was unable to get through to it on several tries. Maybe you'll have better luck.
Namibia Page - Some basic facts to tide you over.
A Tour around Namibia, Africa's Undiscovered Jewel - Just what it says.
Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism Home Page - Nicely done and very informative, probably the best Namibia link here.
For more information on South Africa, visit these sites:
Destination South Africa - An excellent and fact-filled overview of South Africa.
South Africa - A very cool site with an interactive map for detailed regional information.
Rhodesia and South Africa: Military History - Couldn't resist this one, being a military history buff myself.

Maps and flags from the National Geographic Society's Map Machine, a truly wonderful and invaluable resource.
