Dragons

Do we dare believe in dragons? But can we dismiss the existence of that fire-breathing, flying monster who has fascinated and terrified humans since the dawn of civilization?

Zoologically extinct, the dragon lives on in human imagination, and we are going to explore its habits and habitats.

Love Thy Dragon

Whether in the realm of reality or imagination, dragons
are nothing short of fascinating. These wonderful
creatures are the embodiment of majesty, wisdom, and
raw power. They fear nothing.

They come in all sizes, shapes, colors and temperaments.
Their diversity reflects ours. The dragon is beautiful, and
we must do our best to educate the ignorant ones who
would vanquish them.

They are creatures of legend, often misunderstood. We
fear what we don't understand. We must open our eyes
and see the dragons that live among us. We must open
our hearts and learn to love them. And finally we must
open our minds, because we have so much to learn.

The Dragon

His eyes peered out the window, that was high atop the spire.
He'll spend eternity imprisoned there, for deceiving the noble sire.
The cautious fairies of the land, slowly fly around,
to see his heartache engulf him, and his soul forever bound.
Still held tightly in his hand, is the dreaded blood stained knife,
that plunged into the dragons heart, depriving him of life.
Great victory he'd thought he'd found, as his heart kept beating faster,
he's sure the sire would notice this, and dub him dragon master.
In the kingdom the sire knows, that his heart could not be true,
for he has seen his money eyes, disguised behind their blue.
The night returns, and feeling proud, opens up the door,
but instead of light just darkness, for his heart could not be pure.
The familiar voice that surrounds him, now rates his gallant deed,
The sire speaks "Love can not grow, in a heart so full of greed".
The voice now coming closer that he could feel its angry breath,
"Never think of it a victory, when accomplishing a death.
Forever you'll stay in this room, that in time you'll learn to fear,
I leave for you this crystal jar, with only one dropped tear.
I give to you this single tear, I wiped from the dragon's eye,
as I sat there sadly watching, as his life just passed on by.
The sentence I bestow on thee, is to vision night and day,
all the pain the dragon felt, when you took his life away".

Sweet Vengeance

A castle that floats above the sea, is an omen to beware,
the evil ruler has now returned, and the end is growing near.
His fortress he has guarded, by a dragon's fiery breath,
and he who dares to venture in, will surely meet ones death.
In the kingdom, there is a knight, whose heart shines pure and true,
he'll save the land that he loves so dear, and the wrath he will undo.
The hateful ruler who lurks within, his castle in the sky,
is unaware this is the day, that we shall see him die.
Along side the knight, two fellow men, to aide him in his quest,
A mage who holds his holy staff, and a prince who bares the crest.
Their wait for darkness will help disguise, any shadows on the wall,
allowing the mage to raise his staff, and makes the dragon fall.
The prince grabs hold the golden crest, and aims it at the door,
they walk into an evil world, they had never seen before.
The demon ruler spins around, his eyes glow bloody red,
the knight recalls her lovely face, before this hell had struck her dead.
Held in his arms that horrid night, was his true love frail and weak,
he pulls her close, and whispers soft, sweet vengeance I shall seek.
He raised the sword above his head, then plunged it through his soul,
I take your life without a tear, for the true love you had stole.
Although a life he took away, his heart could not feel grief,
he pulled the sword, straight out from death, and slid it in it's sheath.
He bows his head, then walks outside, and he stares up in the sky,
he knew the time had finally come, that he had to say good-bye,
The mage now calls the holy ones, to reward the hero knight,
through grave yard mist, they all stood still, as she came into their sight.
There she stood in a wedding gown, and the tears dripped down her face,
and caught the colors within her eyes, till the moment the embraced.
From the shore, they stood and watched, as the evil disappeared,
and drown the hate they all had felt, and all had learned to fear.
They took a breath of their brand new world, and walked east into the sun,
a glimmer of hope, within their eyes, now that sweet vengeance finally won

The Dragon's Truth

Gold, bronze, brown, green and blue;
A living rainbow of wonderous hue.
With burning fire, they set the sky ablaze.
Scales catch and reflect the sun's bright rays.
Riding the wind, creating their own soft breeze;
Soaring above the clouds, knowing no boundry.
Possessing more power than all the world's mages,
They're spoken of in sweetly sung sages.
To see one aloft in the night
Would fill you full of fear and fright.
But the fears have no right to be bore
If you listen beyond the legends and lore.
Dispell the tales of dragon claw and tooth
And heed instead the Dragon's Truth.

......The Beast in the Lair......

Whence came this great creature, the Dragon?
What manner of beast can he be?
Tales of lore do describe his beginning,
But the past is always hard to see.
Some say he was formed of the deaths,
Of creatures, some large and some small,
Whose blood mingled on top of cursed ground,
A hybrid of torment to all.
And then there are those who assure,
'Twas sorcery that caused him to be.
That those such as Merlin did cast,
Spells that would cause men to flee.

Great creatures of wisdom and strength,
And power beyond mortal control.
Terror from winds that they ruled,
And the heavens that they do patrol.
Like mighty war ships of the ocean,
They sail the gray skies of men's dread,
In search of their treasure and food,
Their hunger is ravenous, 'tis said.

With eyes like sharp daggers that pierce,
Their gaze stops the hearts of brave men.
Their bone snapping jaws have no equal,
Against which armor can seldom defend.
With the power they wield in their wings,
And the strength they possess in their claws,
They can snare a steed at a full gallup,
And in flight, dine on him with savage jaws.

Now you'd think these traits would be sufficient,
For the dragon to rule among beasts,
But there is one that we've yet to speak of,
And by far, the most harmful, not least.
Fire rages forth from his nostrils,
>From his throat issues pillars of flame,
To destroy his opponents completely,
It's this power that gives dragons fame.
Even cities aren't safe from his fury,
>From fiery breath many were burned.
There were few with the strength to withstand him,
Once his anger and rage had been churned.

But dragons weren't always so savage,
In fact some were quite docile and tame.
And the men they befriended were thankful,
To have dragons for friends bore no shame.
These days we don't see many dragons,
They remain in their lairs, I suppose,
Pondering their past lives of glory,
And guarding their jewels and there gold.
I hope that I may one day see one,
And if he's friendly, I may even dare,
To beg that he share with me wisdom,
As we sit upon stones in his lair.
