Major Scales

O.K., you got the chord types down now right? Good because now is the tricky part putting letters to them numbers:

The Major Scales:

This chart shows the major scale notes for each key. It allows you to locate the specific notes for each note number in the chord formulas.
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
C D E F G A B C
Db Eb F Gb Ab Bb C Db
D E F# G A B C# D
Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb
E F# G# A B C# D E
F G A Bb C D E F
F# G# A# B C# D# E# F# Major
Gb Ab Bb Cb Db Eb F Gb Keys
G A B C D E F# G
Ab Bb C Db Eb F G Ab
A B C# D E F# G# A
Bb C D Eb F G A Bb
B C# D# E F# G# A# B

O.K., we already determined that the A major chord consists of the 1,3,5 sounds right? So what's the actual tones? well that's easy, look in the Do - or - the 1 column, go down to the A that is 1. Now move over 2 columns to Mi - or - 3, that C#. Finally move over 2 more columns to the So - or - 5, that is D. So now we know that the A Major chord is A, C#, D. Pretty Cool, Huh? Just remember that what ever letter is in the 1 space -- that is called the root tone. In a B5 chord the root is B so the Do's and 1's will be B. In a C# chord the root is C# so Do's and 1's will be C#.
