The Story So Far.........
(This is a very brief version of events)
The station started off broadcasting around 1993 on 89.6 serving the local
area (around 10 miles) with Drum & Bass/ Hardcore playing tunes like
Champion sound, Valley of the shadows, Renegade terrorist etc. The operating
hours were inconsistent to say the least, but the listener base was massive. The
first mobile phones were in use (if you can call them mobile!) and the phone's
didn't stop ringing.
About 2 years later Freedom started broadcasting more london wide operating
at first on 105 FM and for a longer period on 90 FM.. The music policy was Drum
& Bass all the way with tracks like Set speed, Angles, Quest etc.
About
August 1996 broadcasting ceased for reasons that were out of our hands.
It took about 8 months for us to re-emerge on 107.3FM now playing
Garage/House as well. This at the time was probably one of the best if not the
best frequencies on the dial and is where Freedom got most of it's recognition
from. The broadcasting footprint was massive reaching around a 60 mile radius of
London & the surrounding counties. Calls were being received from High
Wycombe (Far West of London) to Southend (Essex Far East of London). Obviously
this sort of broadcasting does not last forever and it wasn't too long until we
were stopped in out tracks by you know who!
Other frequencies that we have broadcast on are 106.6 FM, 91.55 FM, 94 FM,
87.7 FM 107.1 FM. As you can see finding a stable place to go on the dial at the
moment is one of the biggest problems for most pirates. Many slots are being
taken over by low powered local stations ruining some of Londons best clear
frequencies.
*The station has now been off for 5 years, hopefully one day it will return!*
