5. RETROSPECTIVE - Happy The Man

What is your favorite cd/album featuring Steve Morse?
With a brief explanation please ; )

WHAT IF....hands down. Not a bad track. The Dregs at the
peak of their studio performance. Steve breaking in to wri-
ting and arranging at the top. Ken Scott also turning in a
stellar (do I need your permission to use this word, Marye?)
production. Steve and Andy said they asked Ken to make the
drums sound 'like cannons.' They do. Also, in all my years
of seeing Steve play live, WHAT IF is the album from which
he draws most frequently. I think that's about enough.

w/ the Dregs sounds more like Mike Post (they guy
who did the Magnum P.I. theme song and many
others - A-Team I think). I really like The Intro-
duction as well. I don't have all of his stuff, so I

What is your favorite cd/album featuring Steve
Morse? With a brief explanation please ; )

High Tension Wires...I think this is the most 'intro-
spective' example of Steve's work. The album came
about in a time that Steve reported feeling 'dis-
illusioned' with the music business. It is the most
diverse, and creative album of his that I've heard.
Most of the parts are played by Steve, and it's
beautiful.

With a brief explanation please ; )

Unsung Heroes! Without a doubt. Reasons: I prefer this
version of Cruise Control. Divided We Stand has some
wonderful timing stuff going on in it (and a great solo by
Steve). Day 444 is simply a beautiful piece of music.
Rock n Roll Park is a GREAT rollicking song, featuring
the inimitable T Lavitz (as Andy West used to say) on
sax. Attila the Hun has that great 'windswept' feeling to it,
with some awesome runs, and that beautiful short slow
part (and the whole thing features Allen Sloane's sweet
violin sound). Kat Food - great funky tune, marvelous
bass solo. And Go For Baroque brings tears to my eyes.

Right now it's "Sturctural Damage." The songs truly
appeal to me; it is as if the bandmembers
, having proven they can shred with the best,
now wish to support the songs and make the
solos more concise, rather than just solo
for the sake of soloing.
