Mpeg Layer 3
or "mp3", is very popular on the net. In fact
it is
so popular that without to much effort, you can get
thousands of
songs. It is of course not allowed to copy songs which
has been
originally recorded by an artist, still it is being done
on a large scale.
Maybe I should explain what mp3 is. Briefly, it is
compressed wav-files.
To compress the wav-files down to just 1/12 of its
originally size you may
for example use a file called l3enc.exe for dos, or a
program called Canna
Mp3
for Windows 95/98. The sound quality does`nt get much
"poorer" because
the convertingprograms(encoders) only removes the parts of the
sound that we
humans can`t hear. For listening to mp3s you need a
mp3-player. The most
popular for windows today is Winamp, but there is many other
alternatives
out on the net. Anyway, I think Winamp is the player most
people would like.
