The competition record of the Gardsmen from 1965 through 1995 consisted of 24 Grand Championships, 165 First Places, 39 Second Places, 21 Third Places, 2 Fourth Places, and 223 Caption Awards.

(Caption Awards are given in the following areas: Best Music, Marching and Maneuvering, General Effect, Color Guard, Percussion, Field Commander, etc.)

In addition, the band was named State Champion in 1979 by the Ohio High School Band Directors Association and has consistently received Superior Ratings (the highest given) at the Ohio Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals.
