Frequently Asked Questions
"Oh no! Not another FAQ?", you may scream out in disgust. Well, I hope it isn't that bad,
but it's the only way (or at least the best way) to tell you in some fine structured
sentences what this fanzine is all about.
If you think there's something missing or if you just want to know something you
didn't find at this page, don't hesitate to mail us,
we try to answer your question as soon as possible.
Well, and we're heading for the questions:
What is DisAgreement?
DisAgreement is a fanzine that first appeared sometime around 1990. A fanzine, as you
may know, is a kind of a non-profit, DIY magazine. DisAgreement is in a first place
about underground music of more or less all styles, although we're focusing mostly
on punk, hardcore, metal, gothic, experimental and other cool stuff. But we always
find a bit of space for cartoons, short storys, poetry and...
DisAgreement is written in German and a bit of English (some interviews, poetry,
short stories) and is about 60 DIN A4 pages thick. If you're not sure if
you're German is good enough, maybe stay tuned to this web site and leave
the paper fanzine to people who are able to read it.
Who is DisAgreement?
A hard one, this question! Well, we're a bunch of people that's changing from one issue
to another. The "hard core" of DisAgreement is Troll, the Doctor and Tomix. The latter is
responsible for poetry-related work and lives currently in England. Therefore he's at the
time not so much involved in DisAgreement.
Troll and the Doctor are in fact your web masters. We're also the ones who are doing the
music stuff in DisAgreement, and we're having our own radio show in Luxembourg, but that
point is treated elsewhere.
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention our other contributors: Eaubi is doing live reviews and
music reviews, Yves Scheitler is our talented cartoonist (the creator of the DisAsterman),
and then there are some freelance people that I won't mention here, because there would be
too many names!
How often do we publish DisAgreement?
More or less twice a year. It's not often, but we're busy people doing a lot of other
things (among others going to school, working, making a radio show, writing dumb FAQs,...).
Why DisAgreement online?
Well, DisAgreement (the paper one) has already seen 18 issues, which is quite a lot for
a Luxembourg-based fanzine. There have been a lot of other fanzines, but all of them
vanished after 1 or 2 issues. As we're heading for number 20, we thought it would be a fine
idea to go online. First, it gives us the opportunity to be more "up to date" (shitty term),
and second, we can reach a lot more people this way (that's also the reason why this page
is written in English). I know not everybody is connected to the Internet, but it's growing.
The main advantages are:
- music reviews are published at the time when the CD, demo or vinyl
is published, and not half a year later. Internet pages are a lot more
dynamic than "static" fanzines. Fanzines may be collected, and they
are a good thing to look for things you have long forgotten (reviews,
live reports, etc.), Internet pages are rather something "for the
moment".
- we can give you a live guide, but it will be limited to the Luxembourg
region because if we make a whole world concert guide, our 6 MB on this
page would contain nothing else
- it's just cool to be on the Internet.
How can I get DisAgreement?
Nothing easier than that! Send your money to the following address (our headquarter):
DisAgreement
c/o Thiel Bros.
47 cité op Soltgen
3862 Schifflange
Luxembourg
(Europe)
Prices are
Europe | 5 DM | 3 US$ |
Overseas | 10 DM | 6 US$ |
Prices include postage, so most of the money goes to the postal organizations around the
world. If you're from Luxembourg, prices are 100 LUF or you can get DisAgreement in
Mono Record Shop (Luxembourg-City) for 50 or 60 LUF (we haven't decided yet).
You mentioned a radio show!
Did I? It was in October 1993 when we decided that it's a shame to get all the CDs
as a fanzine, write subjective reviews so that the labels can hope that people are
influenced by us. So we thought it would be a fine idea to make our own radio show.
Cool enough this was at a time when the Luxembourg government made a new law concerning
radio stations. RTL (the famous Radio Luxembourg) had to give up their monopoly, but
the popular pirate stations had also to stop. As a matter of fact, 5 new (and private)
radio stations were created, and one of them was Radio ARA. From one moment to another,
there were more radio stations in this small country than there were talented DJs, so
that unexperienced people (like we were then) could grab a chance.
The rest of the story can be read under the radio-link.
How often is this page updated?
As often as possible. There's nothing more boring than a stagnating web page.
At least every week you can read our new playlist from our radio show, but we try
to update news and concert guides also weekly.
In this early stage of the DisAgreement online page, things may go a bit slowly,
but what the heck! Updates are always easier to do than building the initial structure
of the page.
How can I support DisAgreement?
Send us as much money as possible! No, of course not! But if you're a band or a
label and you're interested in a triple feature (fanzine, online and radio), then this is
the right place to send your stuff.
As a reward, you get a free copy of DisAgreement with the review(s) of your product(s),
the playlist of our radio show (if you insist) and you still can visit this fine place
where the playlists are updated weekly.
Address see above!
Where can I get the cool photographs?
The photos under the picture link are copyrighted by the Doctor,
so they belong to him (we call this capitalism;-). If you just want to use them,
make a copy of them to your hard disk (or whatever). The use is gratuitous, but please
mention that the copyright belongs to the Doctor.
If you like the photos very much and you want to have a real copy of them, contact
the Doctor and ask him nicely. Again, prices
depend on where you live and on what size you want the pictures. But don't worry, it
won't be too expensive.
Where can I listen to Radio ARA?
Unfortunately only in and around Luxembourg. We also don't broadcast in real time
(real audio). But if there's a change in the future (one can always hope), you are
the first to know it.
