Industrial Projeckt came out of a California musical burgeoning which also witnessed the advent of - on the one hand- Venus Bleeding, a remarkable Bay Area band, and- on the other- bands like Healthy Morbidity, a short-lived goth specticle which imploded under the pressure of swollen ego and personal vanity. The Reverand C.W. Sinister formed the band in August of 1996. At that time, he was also in another band, variously known as The Worst/ Heavenly Creatures- a fairly straight forward punk-style band best known- not for its live shows as one might be led to believe- but for their name appearing in spray paint all over the East Bay area. Frustrated by the lack of ambition, foresight and musical talent of other band members, the Reverand Sinister decided to create a unit geared more toward musical competence, unafraid to focus upon a number of diverse topics. At this stage of development, he was augmented by the Reverand D.H. Stigmata (the Vocalist, Lyricist and frontman of Healthy Morbidity), the Reverand D.S. Shattered (at that time Healthy Morbiditys guitarist), the mysterious BPH, and a female vocalist known only as Ramona. This line up- more or less- recorded what was to become the first Industrial Projeckt release. Unfortunately, Reverand Shattered left early on, after being expelled from Healthy Morbidity; The Reverand D. H. Stigmata suffered from a slight mental, nervous and emotional collapse, and Ramona was forced to relocate to Oregon. This left the Reverand Sinister as the sole member of IP, with BPH floating in and out.
A short hiatus insued while the first cassette was being released. Working at a nightclub in Berkeley (The Berkeley Square), C.W. Sinister met Jonathyn Sinistre. Jonathyn Sinistre was another Healthy Morbidity expatriate, a veteran of the mid-80's L.A. Goth scene (during the time of clubs like Scream, The Crypt and very early Helter Skelter) , and was seeking the same sort of dark musical intelligence as was the Reverand Sinister. As the relationship of both with the troubled Reverand Stigmata was suffering, and each had the same dissatisfactions with other current bands, the two begun working together. BPH was still around, and work was begun on the second release, which had to be postponed to allow time for performance. After several... interesting... shows at places such as the Trocadero (where the band managed to get on stage by convincing everyone that they were the opening act and then played until they were physically removed from the premises), I.P. got their first real break at the Berkeley Square. By that point it had become quite apperant that old relationships were not working out, and The Reverand Sinister and Mr. Sinistre decided that a small break was in order to allow each to clear up old business.
After these matters had been resolved, and with the termination of all other musical activity outside Industrial Projeckt, real work was finally begun on the second cassette release. This came out in April of 1999, and was quickly followed by the LILITU E.P. in July of the same year. Although BPH was summerily dismissed from the band, Mssr.s Sinister and Sinistre benefited greatly from the addition of Jezebel, a long-time Art-Terrorist associate of Jonathyns, who came on board initially to handle packaging for LILITU, and stayed. These three eagerly look forward to early in the year 2000, when their first CD release- ARCANA- should be out. Having focused so much attention on recording of late, the band has done few recent live shows- another thing eagerly anticipated.
