Sharon looked at her watch. It was 11 pm. Catey had called over an hour ago and still hadn't shown up. Sharon was in the middle of making herself another drink when she finally saw Catey's BMW pull up.
"It's about fuckin time," Sharon said to herself as the doorbell rang. She went to answer it. "All right, so where exactly are we going tonight?" Sharon asked Catey as they settled down in the living room.
"I was thinking a club in Orlando, maybe the Starlight. They're having a VIP only night, so we're bound to see some cool people," Catey said.
"Just what I need, more recognition for being THE Nick Carter's girlfriend...or not."
"Come on, we can get into clubs on VIP night, why don't you take advantage of this? You're such a baby," Catey said. She began fixing her makeup. "I mean why did you start dating Nick anyway? Certainly not for his looks," Catey scoffed.
"I LIKED him, all right? I didn't even know he was a Backstreet boy when I met him! And after I found out, I wasn't so thrilled, but by then..."
"By then what? You were all ready in love?"
"No. Let's just go, I'll drive," Sharon said.
"Bitch if you think I'm letting your drunk ass get behind a wheel you're crazy. I don't even know how you persuaded Nick to buy you that Jeep. Let's get the fuck out of here." Catey grabbed her keys and the two girls went on their way to Orlando. After about 5 minutes of driving, Catey put in a BSB CD.
"Can we go one hour without listening to this? I'm just so sick and tired of BSB all the time..." Sharon said.
"All right, WHAT is the deal with you lately? I mean I know you and Nick are fighting but who cares, it's just a fight."
"We're not JUST fighting, all right. We're on the verge of breaking up. I've been looking for apartments since he left," Sharon said.
"And who's gonna pay for it?"
"Nick! Who the fuck else?"
"So, you're gonna break his heart and then make him buy you an apartment. And I assume you're gonna keep the car. So then what, you'll still need money to survive won't you?"
"Well, I was hoping he'd agree to still let me share his bank account..."
"What?!? You're crazy! You are dreaming. What you should do, if you MUST leave Nick, is look into that modeling job," Catey said.
"So what're you saying? You think me and Nick should really break up? Have you heard that he's seeing other people or something???"
"No, God no. Actually he was just asking about you the other day...did I forget to tell you?" Catey asked innocently. Sharon felt like punching her face in.
"YES, I THINK you DID forget to tell me. What did he SAY? When did you talk to him?" Sharon asked.
"Well, I was trying to talk to Brian but I guess Nick was sitting next to him, bugging him to ask me about you. He said he left the stove on or something and he wanted to know if you'd shut it off."
"Yeah OK, what a lame excuse to ask about me. What else was said?"
"Well, he then asked if you'd mentioned him at all since he left, and I said no. Then me and Brian went back to talking. That was it. He seemed pretty desperate to hear about you. Why don't you just call him? You know you want to."
"No! If I call him, I'll be giving up. He's the one who didn't want to talk for a week so I'm letting him suffer."
"Ok, so why break up over it? Its obvious you're both still in love."
"Well, its hard to say. I want to start school and he wants me to forget about my plans and go on tour with them. You know the other guys can't stand me, and going on tour with the BSB just isn't the way I planned my life."
"Well, I'm not gonna tell you what to do or anything, but any girl would kill to be in your position. I couldn't be happier dating a BSB. Look at how popular we've gotten! And the money..."
"I guess those things just aren't as important to me. Let's not talk about it anymore," Sharon suggested, and Catey agreed. 45 minutes later, they were pulling into the club.
"Geez this place is packed," Sharon said as she noticed all the cars and people surrounding the club. "There's gotta be some special appearance."
"Oh yeah, I think I heard Justin Timberlake may be here, but I'm not sure. I could be totally wrong," Catey said.
"God, I hope so. That guy gives me the creeps and he hates Nick's guts for some reason." The girls entered the club easily and received evil glares from all the under age or non-VIP girls who were struggling to get by the bouncers. Once inside, the girls were told that they were welcome to go into the VIP lounge.
"Eh, I'm really not feelin it. I'd rather sit at the bar," Sharon said. Catey sighed deeply.
"You're no fun! Listen, I'm gonna go dance for a while and then we're going into the VIP lounge to see who's there." Catey went onto the dance floor before Sharon could reply. She walked over to the bar and ordered a vodka martini.
*********The Four Seasons, LA
Nick had just finished a long day at LAX Airport filming a portion of the video for "I Want It That Way." Having nothing but Sharon on his mind, he treated the fans and crew members rather rudely. Because of so much stress, his acne had gotten worse than ever so he was forced to use a ton of foundation for the video which only made him feel more bitter. The other members of the group felt it best to just ignore him and wait until his little phase was over. Now, while they all went out clubbing, Nick stayed in his hotel room feeling depressed. He wanted more than anything to call Sharon and just make up. Or maybe even just to say hello. He sighed and thought about it for a while longer. He decided to play some video games while thinking things over.
**********The Starlight Club, Orlando
Sharon was on her fifth vodka martini when Catey finally decided she was done dancing.
"Dance enough? You've been out there for over an hour!" Sharon said.
"Lower your voice. I've been dancing for about 20 minutes! And what is that, about your sixth drink?"
"No, shut up. Its my second."
"Hmm...well, let's see what's going on in that VIP lounge. You ready?" Catey asked.
"Yeah lemme just finish this." Sharon gulped her drink down and they walked into the VIP lounge together. The first thing they were welcomed with was a strong smell of marijuana smoke. Just about everyone in that room had been smoking up.
"Damn, where the weed at," Sharon asked to no one in particular.
"Come on, you know we can't do that. Nick would kill you. Plus its for scrubs anyway." Catey said. The girls lingered around the room looking for anyone interesting. They finally saw what all the commotion outside was over: Justin Timberlake. He was surrounded by about 15-20 people. He looked pretty bored and uninterested until he spotted Catey and Sharon.
"Oh my God, its him! He's here!" Catey whispered.
"Woohoo..." Sharon said.
"Hey, *Nsync is the biggest group to come out since BSB. I'm not missing my chance." Catey headed toward Justin and began flirting with him. He definitely responded well. Sharon began feeling slightly ill. She decided to speak up. She walked over to them.
"Um, Cates can I talk to you for a sec?" Sharon asked.
"Not now, I'm busy. You can take the car home, I'll find my own ride," Catey said while staring at Justin. Sharon found it odd how just a few hours ago, Catey seemed to care if she drove drunk. Now that she had her hands on Justin, it was a different story.
"No, I really need to talk to you," Sharon said as she pulled Catey away from the crowd.
"WHAT is your problem??" Catey screamed.
"Hello, what about Brian?! God, do you have any morals? Is money and popularity all you live for?"
"Oh and I suppose booze would be a better thing to live for, huh?"
"Shut up!" Sharon screamed. Just then, Justin walked up to the two girls. He turned to Sharon.
"Listen bitch, why don't you just leave before you cause a problem. Cathy's a big girl, she can take care of herself."
"It's CATEY, and you know she has a boyfriend, right?" Sharon spat.
"Hey, maybe if he was doin the job right, she wouldn't be with me right now. What's that wimp got to offer her, anyway? Not a damn thing. Now, why don't you either leave the girl alone, or get the hell outta here."
"You know I've always hated you. You're the cockiest mother fucker I've ever met in my life. Your singing sounds like shit, Brian could kick your ass in the studio any day. Catey are you really gonna let this asshole come between you and the BSB?" Sharon stared at Catey but received no reply. Instead, Catey handed her the car keys. Sick of everything that had been going on that week, Sharon gave up and stormed out of the club and into the parking lot. She got into the car and for the second time that week began sobbing. After a few minutes she calmed herself down enough to start driving home. She couldn't believe how sick the music business was. On top of that her stomach was turning whenever she thought of her problems with Nick, which was just about every other minute. Just as she was convincing herself that she had to give up and give him a call, her cell phone rang.
